Once you have made the claim and have had a reply by the bank to say that they are looking into it, how long should you have to wait to be told if you are entitled to a refund.

Not any more. The 2 stage complaints handling process was ablolished by the FSA in July 2012. Firms have to give a final response within 8 weeks of receiving the initial complaint.

I agree there are plenty of examples of this on the forum.

Usual excuse is due to "excessive demand".

But officially, it is indeed eight weeks that lenders have agreed is the usual timescale to respond to complaints.

depends who it is. LLoyds bank can ask for 16 weeks

it doesn't stop you referring your complaint to the FOS after 8 weeks though.

That's the whole point, if the Bank has not responded fully and finally by the eight weeks allowed then the complainant then has full access to FOS.
