Are you sure the third service wasn't from another garage rather than the MB dealer?
  • Why don't you use your evidence (service hist, and V5C stating 2 prev owners), and challenge them comparing it to their original advertisement/details ... and suggest a suitable partial refund before threatening to get all legal on their asses?!

I assume that you still want the car?

    They're car salesmen, they lie.

I may be wrong, but it may be worth checking first that the car didn't have a personal plate on it, that was taken off when the car was sold by 1st owner, as this will show on the V5 as an extra keeper IIRC, it certainly was the case for the Audi A4 I had a few years ago.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

I was recently car shopping and have learned to take service history with a pinch of salt. There were a few occasions where I grew suspicious of the service books I was presented with. These were at main dealers; the service history books looked very desperately convenient, i.e. on purpose different colour pens but same dealer stamp and handwriting despite the car having come from somewhere else in the country.

Two cars I went back on from a differnet main dealer didn't have anything like the service history I saw written in the service book and one even came back a Cat D despite it being shown as HPI Clear at the dealer.

IMO, you need to be just as cautious at a main dealer as you do buying privately these days. Just my experience of late. No idea if it's gotten worse lately or if it's always been like that and I didn't realise.
  • I would get all the evidence together as stated above and approach the dealer, or in fact just go straight to trading standards and they will talk/email you through what to do.
What you don't want to end up with (as we are at the moment) is a stalemate where you just want a refund for the whole car and they won't take it back.
Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE :)

You can never really be sure of service history, even dealerships will stamp all the blanks on service history prior to selling a used car.

I think you need to decide what you want as a resolution here before you jump in as it does seem you will have the upper hand ????

    Couldn't agree more.....
  • When you bought the car it would have been one previous owner (to the current one showing)

    So two in total.

I assume you have now recieved the V5 in your name, which will now show two previous owners to the current one (you)

So there isnt an issue there.

I'd contact the previous owner to see what the mileage was when they sold the car and if they had any servicing done outside the MB network.

Have a look on VOSA at the mileage history too.
