driving licence
How strange is this, Just renewed photo card driving licence online with my passport which is currently 4 years 5 months old but is able to be used for the photo and signature which they transfer to your new ten year photo driving licence. So what they have done is give me a new driving licence which will have a photo on it that will be 14 years and 5 months old by the time this new photo card becomes invalid in 2023.
Point is they claim your photo needs updating every ten years because your appearance changes in this time and failure to do so makes you liable for prosecution. But my photo will be way over ten years by 2023!!!!
whats right for one is right for all a.:D

And in the limit, of course, photographs that are nineteen years old will be in use (apply for a driving license in the last year of validity of your passport). At the moment, there aren't any nine year old passports in circulation which have photographs that can be transferred to driving licenses, but there will be in a few years' time.0 -

It does make the argument that renewing every ten years a bit of a farce when you can transfer from one to another. The whole point of it was to ensure your photo was not older than ten years;)0 -

I thought that if the passport was over 5 years old, you cant use the picture.
I'm sure I had to send a new picture because of this.0 -
As above, just done mine and the passport photo had to be no less that 5 years old. But as I was doing my passport renewal at the same time wasn't really an issue.
It is an oddity but I assume the DVLA are happy that a 15 year old photo is OK.0 -

Which begs the question, why are they making you pay to renew after ten years? Did someone mention 'money making scam'.......................

Maybe the motoring organisations who are supposed to represent motorists interests should do a test case in courts to challenge renewal if driver can be identified (as most people can, 25 years probably more acceptable) and their licence to drive is till they are 70 initially.
Won't happen of course since AA and RAC are about as useless as OFCOM and energy regulators.0 -

The EU Directive on Driving Licences requires photocard licences to have 'administrative validity' of 10 years, or 15 years, if the Member State chooses.
The DVLA have decided not to give us the longer validity, presumably on the basis that a) they get more money, and b) using a 5-year-old passport photo would mean a photo could be as much as 20 years old.0
