Leaving the army to do close protection.

I'm worried as OH has had a lightbulb moment and I'm quite worried. He wishes to take vol redundancy next week leave, then pay £5,000 for a course to do CP. we can't live off my wage - although I earn more than him I pay for everything pretty much he pays his PAX insurances, mortgage and the car (on finance) I'm worried CP is a dying profession. He has been in the Infantry for 12+ years is a corporal and has operational exp in Iraq, afghan, n.ireland, Falklands. My common sense is telling him to stay with the army for security, he sees a big dream with 10 weeks working 4 weeks back home £4,500 per month tax free every month (even on leave!) I don't know much about cp I'm hoping some of you guys have some idea. Sorry if I'm rambling on.. I'm on a night shift (on my break) but really tired :rotfl:

their is no need for him to pay for close protection
if he has just come out of the army, he can contact employers direct, and depending on his regiment and skills, the company will pay for any extra training
i would stay in the army
i am ex infantry

Hmm, strange. The company Phoenix training said they wanted £5,000 for the CP course. Although he has some quals with his job (infantry) and was in Iraq 04" doing security for the prisoners etc. I just don't want to take a huge risk lose my home run up debts because of his lightbulb moment especially as we have a daughter together. :-( xx"Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together."Proud Mummy to an amazing beautiful baby girl Scarlett 29.06.2011 my dreams came true when I met youThank you to those who post competitions - Good luck guys :beer:0

Pumpkinx, private security is still a growing business but its unfortunate that the circuit both UK and abroad is completely flooded with lads and lasses leaving the tri services(Army,Navy RAF)
The UK circuit is very hard nut to crack trust me ive been on the circuit for 20 years. However the work overseas seems favorable for most service leavers theres plenty of work in the Sandpit (Iraq and Afghan) but the money is really not great and to be honest the way the industry is you just dont know who your team could possibly be theres even rumours of ex club bouncers working out there !! so please tell you chap to vet potential companies prior to departing UK.
Now the Maritime Circuit (which is what I am doing at the moment) is again flooded with lads, looking to move from the sandpit to Maritime but work seems to have hit the floor at the moment. Pirate attacks are getting less with new UK companies trying to set up in Somalia etc so hence the demand for Ship Security Officers is begining to slump. Now, Thats not to say that he wont get a job. Im sure he will but please tell him be careful and also tread carefully !!!make sure all bases are covered insurances, medical etc etc
If I was him I would look at a uni degree (Security Management) its the way forward more and more companies are looking for the most educted take a lokk at CRG (Control Risks Group)in my eyes and my experience "They are the best" and the offer job security and a way to climb the ladder for success also Leicester Uni,Bucks Uni etc they all offer courses, but like all success comes with years of study and investment he could do the University programme whilst serving ! however If he is going to leave speak to CRG or the bigger companies Aegis, Olive etc and see what they can offer.
On the flip side of the coin Paramedicine (Paramedic) is also a good avenue to explore and if he decides to work in Hostile Enviroment being a paramedic gives him the upper hand on other operatives.
Tell him to get as much as he can out of the forces before he leaves....In all honesty if I had my time agian I would have stayed in the forces for 22 yrs.
For you, which ever he decides to do most rotations are 2 months on 1 month off or 3 months on 1 month off (my partner and family (kids) feel the stress of me being away but in all honesty its what we do best us as ex brit forces so I know nothing diffrent !! Hope this helps and good luck to you both.
Apologies about spelling0
