Housing Benefit & Council Tax Benefit

Is anyone able to advise if you would not qualify for Council Tax benefit if you are in arrears for council tax?

I currently receive housing benefit as I am on job seekers allowance, but they haven't told me why I didn't qualify for CTB.

Just curious.

Thanks

Your best bet is to pop down there or ring them in the morning and ask them why you didn't qualify.

If you are not sure about the reason they give, then come back on here.

You will have to contact them at some point, so you may as well do it first.

Council tax arrears have no effect on your ability to clam council tax benefit.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • If you are in arrears with CT you will still get it if you qualify but they will not give you the full amount, I was in arrears and I still got it but at the end of the letter it said they were keeping £10 a month for arrears so I had to pay that much each month to make it up.
