Thankyou
I will ring the police station and check this, I wouldnt want her to get into trouble either. What would they do with the documents when they have them? I think she needed to take her car insurance, tax details and I think also driving licence. We got them all ready to take then realized that there would be no point claiming so she didnt go but I'm sure they said it had to be 24 hours if so ots passed that.
It says on the paper collision reference number, its a white and blue piece of paper that says Road Traffic Collision on it. Shes also got a liitle piece if paper with it that says restricted when complete on it and VDRS/HO/RT 1 So it does look the kind of thing you mean.
What do they do when they get this information? Do they inform her insurance and will she have to declare it when she applies for any insurance quotes in the future or to her insurance company. I can't rem the questions they ask on those forms I think its have you been involved in any accidents in the last 5 years?
Shes taking the car in this morning to be repaired plus shes shes letting him do her mot aswell so will she have to leave her mot cert with him at the garage or can she just show him and bring it back with her in case she has to go to the police station with it?Thanx

Daughter had to go back to uni without her car while its in the garage but she passed the street where she had parked her car when it was smashed into today and the car that was parked in the same space had a great big scratch down the side of it, not as bad as hers was but what the heck is going on round there.
We don't know where shes going to be able to park now theres double yellows all around her house and she lost her parking space in a car park just round the corner from her student house a few weeks ago so has had to walk a long way from the house to park it there where it got smashed into... She cant park it there anymore though by the looks of itThanx

Hi Lady K,
When your daughter takes her documents to the Police station they will record the details purely to ensure they meet the requirements of the road traffic act. They will not inform the insurance company. If you do not intend to make a claim on your insurance, you would still be well advised to notify them of the incident. Because if you do have to make a claim in the future for something, and you inadvertantley let slip about this Incident they may tell you that even though you did not wish to claim, they may have re-considered the risk and decline to pay out. Down to not declaring all the facts. Its just another excuse for them not to pay out on policies.
I had owned my car for a month when a bus decided to drive too close and smash the electric door mirror off, the bus company payed for the repair, i notified my insurance even though i did not need to make a claim and it makes no difference to your no claims %. It just covers you - and they dont have any excuses to wriggle out in the future.

Thanx she took the documents in and they just checked them didnt even photocopy them just noted they had been shown and that was it. She hasn't told the insurance yet but once the MOT'S done she can sort that out.
Firstly, The garage man said hes put a new door on so far. I asked about the lock he said its a new lock, I said is it a different key to the other doors then and he said no its a new lock but the same key, is it that easy to get keys for cars? its a bit worrying
My daughter took it to the garage on Monday morning. He told us it would be ready for Weds but my daughter said she couldnt pick it up till Friday after uni so Friday was agreed. He said he would still ring weds to let her know how things had gone but didn't so I rang yesterday (Thursday) and he said it wont be ready till smetime next week!!! and he that hadnt even booked it in for MOT yet as he could'nt put it in until the bodywork had been done. I questioned why he had to book it in as he was doing it, he said he doesn't actually carry them out himself. I don't know if someone comes in to do them or if he takes them somewhere. She had already booked it in with the council and cancelled it as he convinced her getting it all done there would save her time and in the circumstances she agreed but only because she thought he'd be doing it himself I'm not happy with it being done 3rd party without her even being informed.
I was really angry because my friend and my daughter agreed with him that he do the work on the assurance that it would be ready for the latest Friday (today) as she starts her next nursing placement on Tuesday and needs the car for Sat in order to go back to her student house, get all her stuff drive it 30+ miles to her boyfriends house as hes closer to the placement and then she has a 28 mile each way journey to the placement each day so she can't come back for the car its essential that she has it. They explained all this to him when they went for the quote. He says he forgot
I have asked him if he can just get the bodywork done for Saturday and leave the MOT for now and he said theres no promises, it really took some persuading to get him to even try but she could lose the placement because of this.
She is going to go back to her original council MOT place. I just hope to god nothing expensive needs doing on top, I thought at the garage they would do the MOT first in case anything expensive needed doing as if it so with the cost of the repairs we may have had to consider having it repaired at all but now shes already having it done
Another thing I'm a bit worried about is he said it's taking longer than he thought but when they went for the quote he did say that the max it would be was £400 excluding the MOT so I'm a bit concerned if he tries to charge her more. He did say it took him a few days to find a door though so he couldnt have actually been working on it since it went in. He didn't give her a written quote but she took someone with her when he told herThanx
