How long before MG close?

Went past the old Longbridge site last week and thought, hmmm, when was the last time I saw an MG6 on the road, must be at least 6 months.
Not quite a fan of the car myself and they surely can't produce ONE model of a car which nobody seems to buy and survive?
Thoughts?

MG in the UK is a token operation. It is mainly a design house and a small manufacturing unit building MGs in knock down kit format - minimal assembly.
They have the smaller and probably bigger selling MG3 coming on stream soon. But realistically anything Korean will be 5x better.
Whilst they want success in the UK their main market is in China/Asia.The man without a signature.0 -

This year. But in 5-10 years time they could easily be a match if not better.0 -
Plus the midsize MG5 (Roewe 550) and possibly the small executive MG7. You're right though - in this market they are competing against the likes of Kia and Daewoo and hoping that the name and Britishness will be a psychological factor to some customers.vikingaero wrote: »They have the smaller and probably bigger selling MG3 coming on stream soon. I've driven the MG6 and it was perfectly acceptable - but I bought a Focus
I need to think of something new here...0 -
Daewoo?!! They became Chevrolet in the UK a long time ago! I think I read somewhere that 'MG' (whoever they are now) had a record sales year. Considering they haven't been running very long that's hardly surprising, but I rarely see one on the road. Wonder if a lot of pre-registrations have happened...0

Its easy for us to sit in the UK and think the motoring world revolves around us.
They're aiming for the asian market primarily, and no doubt aiming for worldwide domination given 5-10 years.0 -
I think the same, Current comments.... Its a who and what. Dont think i have ever seen one and would never buy one..
Just like all the cheap cars which now have got better since hitting these shores.
Who knows, In 10 years they could be the Skoda equivalent. Where people think i want one of those but the thought of what the badge says to others will deter them.
But the sensible people ignore the badge and buy them.
I wouldnt say no to a nice Superb estate. But how much?? Its a Skoda, It should be pocket money prices

The only time I've ever seen one out and about (ie not in a magazine) was at a nearby dealership they are co-habiting with Mazda.
The reason that there hasn't been many sold is a) the fact it has less publicity/less known than other manafactuers (I bet some people don't even know MG are making cars again) and b) its not that it's a bad car, it's just that there are many better cars available.
and I also read the Mg3 will be on sale later this year I believe. From the preview shots it looks around Nissan Note size, maybe a bit smaller.0 -
Even Jason Plato couldn't raise their profile using it on the touring car circuit.
Mind you, it was only an MG in name, underneath was something totally different. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
Unfortunately it all comes down to poor management of the business. At some point in the mid to late 80's we stopped promoting up from the shop floor and started putting inexperienced graduates into management roles....“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
