If I buy car insurance on a cashback card will I get the cashback?

I have had a look round the forum but I can't see a conclusive answer, I have enough cash to pay for the insurance but I would love to get something back for nothing if I can by paying with a cash back credit card then paying it off straight away and keeping the cash back for myself.

Can anyone confirm if this will work.

it will work, i've been using the barclaycard cashback since november now and got cashback for my insurance thrugh Admiral.

6% Cash back in the first 3 months

Even better, use a cashback site such as Quidco or Topcashback, provided they are the same price or cheaper, pay with your cashback CC and get cashback from them and from the card.

Unless your particular cashback card explicitly excludes insurance then yes you will. Most cards give cashback on everything other than balance transfers, their own fees and anything that counts as a cash advance (eg withdrawing from an ATM, gambling, foreign currency)

You may find the insurance company charges extra for a credit card over a debit card however.

Extending this idea - I pay my full year council tax by credit card. Although your council may not advertise they accept credit cards, a quick call to their Payments Hotline has not failed for me so far.

Thats another £10-£15 to be earned for nothing..

Many councils also apply a charge for paying council tax by credit card.
Ours charge 2.3%

Those that don't are obviously happy to pass the charges they incur in accepting payment by credit card onto all their other taxpayers.
