Switching
Hi guys, I recently switched gas and electricity supplier and was charged twice in one month! I was charged my usual amount from my old supplier and my new amount from my new supplier when they had only supplied it for a day!!! Is this right? doesn't seem worth switching as the savings made over the year have nearly gone by paying such a large amount in one month!!

Whenever I have switched the old company use my meter readings as their final reading and the new company use it as their opening reading. Are you suggesting this has not happened and you are being charged twice for the same energy?0

OP, you should not pay for the same gas/electric twice, the end meter readings on the old account should be the same as the start readings on the new account.
However it is sometimes possible that the last Direct Debit from the old supplier falls into the same month as the first DD from the new one. This does not mean that you lose one of the DD's, they will be accounted for in the final bill and the first bill.0 -
I just had the same with them both taking DDs on the same day. I would rather cancel the old supplier and just pay what I owe when the bill comes in but they say if we do that the rate will change to their standard rate so I had to leave it be. Will try to time it better next time.0

I paid my monthly direct debit to old supplier beginning of nov, then paid monthly direct debit to new supplier towards end of November when I had only just switched. When I contacted my old supplier and asked them if a they needed a final reading and they said no however I was refunded just under half a months amount from old supplier in December!0
