I once bought a privately owned car from a dealer that was 1 month old - go figure that one!

the chances are, its an ex-demonstrator or someone that just wanted a change in car! If its got a higher mileage (for a 1 year old car anyway) more like 30-40,000 its probably ex rental. Nothing wrong with that, just it may of had a bit more use.

with regard to the Fiesta's engines, I'd choose the 1.2 petrol over the diesel. unless you are trudging up and down the motorways (in which case you probably wouldnt be buying a Fiesta) then the petrol has lower running costs, and cheaper to buy in the first place. Also the DPFs that come with modern diesels can be expensive if not used used on longer journeys.

The main reason there are so many new/nearly new cars for sale is simply overproduction.

These excess vehicles are then sold/used as others have described.

Thank you everyone for your advice and comments. I bought a 3 month old car from my Ford Dealer 1.2 petrol.

As you can see my knowledge of buying cars is very low and I really value everything said.

    Thanks

I am looking for a fairly new used car. I can see cars less thana year for sale. What are the general reasons for selling such a nearly new car? I am skeptical about purchasing such a car thinking there must be something wrong. Why sell a car which was bought under a year ago????

Also. Is it better to buy nearly new cars from dealer or private?

Hi, main dealers actually deliberately run courtesy cars for a few months/ up to 10,000 miles to provide themselves with an extra supply of nearly new vehicles.

During this first period the sales department hires/charges the cars out to the service department /bodyshops to account for the slight loss of value.

Nearly new are just one component of any decent franchised dealers offering. Often they get collosal discounts (as opposed to huge normally) on run-out models, but mainly they are just part and parcel of the overall deal. You get bulk discount, you reach sales targets by pre-registering, you supply your hire/fleet/service side with cars, let every tom, !!!!!! and harry run them and then sell them at, "discounted prices" and make as much overall as the customer ordered fresh stock.
    All part of the game.
Be cautious of all of them, and be wary of the ones that have only delivery mileage on them and be registered to the Dealer. They have got the collosal discount, you will only get a percentage of that and the next buyer will simply see it as a two owner car.

Could be the prev owner changed jobs and wanted a car more economical due to longer distance to travel.

Agreed in principle, but don't underate the new diesel fiestas as motorway cars. I took one from Kent to Stafford none stop before Christmas, and couldn't fault it. :)
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

The first 3 cars I owned from new were all sold at 1 year old as I wanted a new one.

My last car was sold at 15 months old because I didn't like it.

My car is 10 months old and I'm the fourth owner! First registered to Citroen dealer on 31st March 2012, reregistered by raffle winner 6 days later bought by another dealer and then bought by me mid May with 460 miles on the clock for £6350, £3090 under local dealers price
I wasn't worried at all about the car all changes are logged and I have photocopies of previous V5's to show full history.
