Tethering

Options
Hi there

Is there anyone who can give me step by step guidance on how to tether my Nexus 7 via my Blackberry.

I think I have to set my Blackberry up as a Hotspot but I haven't got a clue how to do it.

Basically, I want to use the Nexus 7 via my Blackberry internet service.

Grateful for any help.

On my last 2 HTC's, it is simply a case of finding the setting of 'use htc as hotspot' in the network settings and turning it on. It then gives you a network key so when you search for a connection on the nexus it will see your phone, connect and enter key.

I can't imagine it being much more difficult on a BB. Not had a BB for years I'm afraid so can't help further sorry but should be easy enough.

My android just has a switch in the settings to start tethering

Download your manual and search for the word "tethering"
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

  • Have found loads of info on the internet that says Blackberry's can't be set up as 'Hotspots' - which is what I need.

But, just found an article that says BB are now (as of 10 January) rolling out OS 7.1 which will now allow BB's to be set up as hotspots.

Does this mean I can download/upgrade the software on my phone or do I have to buy a newer model? I have a Torch.

    Many thanks

That's really a question for whoever you bought the phone from, and Blackberry themselves. The hardware may/may not be able to use the new firmware (Blackberry can tell you) for an unlocked set.

However if the phone is network locked (ie it was free/subsidised and bought with a contract) then the network are the only people who can tell you if they'll roll out the new firmware. Usually that's a 'no', FWIW, as they have to take the official release of the firmware, and cripple it and add their tacky branding to it which takes work for no real financial reward for them.

    He said a "Torch".

Why not use Bluetooth? I can tether my Ipod to my Nokia C2-01 via BT ... I don't see why the Nexus won't also work that way.
