train
oops, didnt put full title... should have been train journey query!
hi all..
just wondering if you book a train journey online that involves changing trains - what happens if by any chance the first train is delayed and you miss the connection, is your original ticket still valid for the next available train?
want to book tickets but one of the changes only leaves 9 minutes at southampton station, not sure how big this is, so could be cutting it very fine if there are any delays and have to find different platforms etc!
thanks!

Hi Mitch, I take it you have worked this itinerary out by yourself. Train companies would be very foolish to give a connection with this limited time between trains. If this is the time they gave you, and printed this out for you then they would be responsable for your connections, usually give 20mins or more for connections.:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o

If you have a through ticket of any type for the whole journey there should be no problems.
If you are travelling with walk on tickets (standard single or return, saver, etc), then again no problems unless you run into peak hour restrictions on savers.
If you have separate cheap train-specific tickets for different parts of the journey, then yes there could be problems.0 -

There are only 4 platforms at that station you are changing at and the chances are the Weymouth train will be the next train on the same platform that you arrive at, as the train from Manchester carries on to Bournemouth and the Weymouth train also calls at Bournemouth. IF the train from Manchester is on time then 8 mins will be plenty.0 -

Are you saying you have bought a single from Manchester to Southampton and another single from Southampton to Weymouth?
If so you could have a problem if the Southampton to Weymouth ticket is an advance purchase cheap single valid on one train only. If it's a full fare standard single then it's valid on any train that day.
If your first train is badly delayed the Weymouth train will have gone ahead of it and will have left Southampton before you arrive.
If you have a single ticket all the way from Manchester to Weymouth then you are OK if you are delayed whatever sort of ticket it is.0 -
The exception would ,be if you had booked a cheap ticket with specified trains, and different companies, I mean by this: If I book a ticket from Glasgow to London with virgin, and I take the train from my home station to the mainline station and it breaks down, and arrives too late for my connection, then Virgin dont have to honour my ticket, the onus would be on the company who,s train breaks down. If however I hadnt left, I think the minimum time s 20 mins between connections , then they dont have to do anything:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o
