Can Any One Tell Me How To Boot My Computer From Cd?

Hi lapley
When you switch on your PC it will boot from floppy/cd/hard drives in a particular sequence.
If you want your PC to boot from a cd then you must have it set to look for a cd before it tries to boot from the hard drive.
The bootup sequence is set by the motherboard BIOS settings. To adjust the settings you need to go into BIOS at startup, usually by pressing 'delete'.
Then when you are in BIOS look for a section that says something like:- 1st boot device, 2nd boot device, 3rd boot device.
If you have a handbook for your motherboard then read it first.
If you know the type of motherboard then you could post it here for advice from someone with experience.

Hi there, the key you press for the BIOS is the 'delete' key on mine ... it's usually F8 to select Windows safe mode.
But as 'che' says it might well be different for yours.0 -
Yup, it's 'delete' on mine too.
I lost the plot
I'm gonna edit it quick before anyone else notices.:DNever interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
I've been trying to do this too on a dell computer. got as far as the right screen but it says use +and- to move the order of startup stuff around, but pressing these keys does nothing at all?!? what am i doing wrong?I will be rich :rotfl:0

use +/- on the numeric keypadEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
-
Yep tried that one already when the other ones didn't work! Still nothing. Keypad is a bit grubby though(kids) so may try cleaning it first see if the keys are working properly. If not I don't understand!I will be rich :rotfl:0

Before pressing the +/- on the numpad are you using the arrow keys to select/highlight the device that you want to move?0
-
Yes, the highlight moves up and down with the arrow keys but just wont change position or uncheck?I will be rich :rotfl:0

Normally I find if you place a bootable CD in the drive and then restart the computer you'll be given the choice of drive from which to boot.0
-
Did you try left/right? And space? And enter?
Also, you can only change order if you have more than one device in the list. Make sure all devices are listed (i.e. at least hard drive and CD drive in your case), and if not, you might need to change another option to activate it.0
