Hi all,
Planning out the living costs for me and my partner to rent a house in the St Helens, Merseyside area. Our first home.
Could anyone help us out with the average costs you all pay for your Electric, Gas and Water Rates.
We are looking for a 2 Bedroom house, we will be working full-time approximately 40hrs, therefore we will not be in the house for most of the day.
There will only be 2 of us in the house with central heating.
All help is appreciated.
Thank you

We are 2 adults in a 3-bed house working fulltime - electricity & gas is £92/month, and water is £28/month (non-metered)."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

When looking for your house go for one with gas central heating rather than all electric.
Then all I can say is that the national average usage is 16500 kwh gas and 3200kwh electric. Depending on your tariffs that could work out at very roughly £60-£70 gas and £35-£45 electric. Obviously I do not know your lifestyle so take those figures as only a guide.
Now to water, the normal use is 50 cubic meters per person per year. The cost will vary by region, I have no idea of the North west cost But in my area it is about £35 per month.0 -
Water varies so much that you can't compare with others in different areas. It also depends whether there's a meter or not.0

Thanks for the replies.
The costs seem very low compared to what both of our parents have advised us. They advised us what they use themselves, the estimates are bellow.
Estimate 1 (2 in the house):
£100 Gas
£50 Electric
£60 Water
Estimate 2 (2 in the house):
£80 Gas
£60 Electric
£42 Water
Comparing that to what I have read on here, are they paying more than they should be? considering both of the households only have 2 adults in each.
Here is what we have put down for ourselves:
£85 Gas
£50 Electric
£42 Water Rates
Will this be enough to cover the costs?
Thanks.0 -
Your parents may leave the heating on longer or on at a higher temperature. Turn the heating off during the day and and night and you will have enough in your budget to pay the bills. Turn the heating down as far as possible at all other times.
Personally I think you have over estimated the costs...but it's better to over estimate than under estimate. I pay £34 a month for gas/electric and £15 a month for water but then I am very frugal with heating and water.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Impossible to answer without knowing a) how the property is heated and hot watered and b) if the water is metered or on RV billing. No free lunch, and no free laptop
