Won't the sound quality be more dependant on the active speakers. Would expect most modern PCs to be capable of handling itunes."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I've heard good things about the ASUS Xonar series of sound cards... though I'd suggest getting better 'phones for the 'pod* first. The little white things you get in the box are apparently terrible.

Nope and no intention of getteing one. I have a smartphone with 32Gb miroSDHc card does me just fine. I use Senheisser CX300 or Denon over ear.
The OP does though;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

The Xonar cards are very good if they actually works on your system, fantastic hardware, nice headphone amp etc. Unfortunately the drivers are very picky about what computers they will work with*. Buy it from somewhere with a good return policy, even if that means going to bloody PC World.
I ended up getting a Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Audio. I always swore I'd never buy another Creative Labs product, but it actually works fine.
*They are incredibly sensitive to DPC latency, so if you have one other piece of hardware in your system with a poorly written driver you risk getting pops and jumps in your sound.0 -
Make sure you get a decent sound card, and if you want the 'best sound for music', feed it to a proper HiFi system, not a pair of 'computer speakers'....0
