Each time I start my pc I get an error message saying 'windows didnt complete start up' or words to that effect & it then offers to start in Safe Mode. However if I then chose to 'restart' once pc up & running in safe mode, it starts just fine!
I'm running Win98se
with AVG virus - upto date version - has caught & healed the odd trojan
Sygate firewall
Spybot
& Tune-up utilities - which I have run & found no real probs & any it did were fixed
I only defraged at the weekend as that usually fixes this sort of thing but to no avail!
Son  did download a screen buddy thing which I removed with Tune-up & that had seemed to affect a few other programs so I'm guessing its 'done something' to something windows uses to start but what?
As it will start from restart in safe mode, I'm at a loss as to what it could be?
Any ideas guy & gals?

Might be worth using restore to a point before son downloaded the screen buddy thing.
It would be my next step anyway.0 -

startup in command prompt mode, F8 at bootup
scanreg /restore - holds 5 copies of the registry (by default), so if it has just started, you can go back upto 5 days.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
