Is there a way to strengthen the signal from my modem/router? The only room it will work in is the living room. I can't connect ŵith my laptop from my room and my sons Xbox won't pick it up either. I had thought about buying an extension and moving the router/modem thing but heard this will weaken it even more.

Plenty of ways to boost.

It doesn't have an aerial no. It does have four Ethernet connections there. It's a sky modem /router if that's any help?0

You could try homeplugs which use internal mains wiring and connect to router and other to computer or other device or get a wireless mains adaptor which extend the wireless range
I have homeplugs and this too

I have lots of wireless devices at home and a couple of areas in house which are poor signal even when I got some high gain aerials its mainly due to where I have router positioned
You can pay less for above link some cheap Chinese tplink products0 -
Do you have a link for a home plug?0

which model of router is it? have you got any other sky routers laying about?
a phone line extension won't weaken the wireless signal, if you can move the router closer to the action
is it flat or on a stand, moving the position/orientation slightly could help
if there are other devices around on the same channel, changing the wireless channel on the router could help, you can see what's out there with this, and adjust the position to improve the signal in your room

microwaves, video senders can also interfere!!

A couple of months ago I got an iPad, with a view to surfing the net, whilst watching TV.
It turned out that the only room with poor wifi reception was the living room.
We got the Netgear Wifi extender shown in the link to Amazon.
We have it plugged into a socket in our bedroom, which is a central point in the house, and right above the living room.
It wasn't as easy as the instructions lead us to believe to set up, and we had to get a bit of help.
But it works a treat - I'm typing this from my sofa, while watching TVEarly retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
If an extension won't weaken the signal I'll try that first. If that fails I'll think about trying one of the plugs. Wasn't really hoping to spend too much money0

Try fitting an iplate to your master socket, which are available online from BT. You will need to check to see if it is compatible though0
