Even new motherboards often still have a set of IDE pins on them...Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

To be honest I'd get my data off the IDE drive and securely wipe it before disposing. An IDE drive is likely to be fairly old and near the end of its life by now.0

Thanks for the replies, I bought one of the converters for a fiver plugged it in the orange light came on but my computer did not seem to seem recognize it.0

Have you got the drive jumpers set correctly?
I have had a (similar) converter and it worked fine.0 -
I've tried 3 of those converters, from cheap to more expensive.
None of them worked, tried all the jumper settings, different HDs, different PCs.
One (not the cheapest) blew the psu as soon as it was powered up.
The only thing that worked, and continues to work some months on, is

+ really fast delivery.
Also allows you to fit SATA to IDE only mobo, not all of the previously mentioned adapters are bi-directional.Move along, nothing to see.0
