I owe money to Eon but I'm moving out of property...
Hi, i currently owe money to Eon around £1200 for both electricity and gas. They have been more than unhelpful in arranging a way for me to pay back the balance except for threatening to fit a prepayment meter. I rent the property, so its not an option for me to have them fitted as I'm not the landlord/owner etc otherwise I'd have no objections! Anyways, I'm moving out the property, back in with my parents so there is no way i can transfer the debt to my new property etc. Will eon allow me to pay it back weekly/monthly? The debt will remain the same as there wont be any consumption and will they allow tenants after me in the property to start from scratch etc. Heads up the wall!

I suggest you speak with the supplier asap. £1200? That's about a years consumption for the average household.
Normally amounts owed are repayable immediately you cease to be their customer, but if you ask nicely they may agree a repayment plan with you.
Failing to repay immediately could adversely affect your credit history.
Couldn't you put the return of your security deposit towards paying off a sizable chunck of the debt?0 -
Exactly! And its only me and my toddler in a 2 bedroomed bungalow, that's why I'm so confused, but its all off meter readings so i dont know what else to do! I just want to move and pay it off and leave the property with a clean slate.0

If you move out Eon have no way of collecting the Debt, other than coming to an agreement with you to pay it off over time - Unless you can easily afford the regular payments they ask for, tell them this and negotiate a lower figure over a longer period - Whatever agreement you end up with, you must get this in writing
Be aware that if you miss or are late with a single payment on the agreement, Eon will go into Wolverine Collection mode
Make sure you make a record of the meter readings when you move out and file them away safely0 -
Hi bollboll
I'm sorry we've not been able to set up a satisfactory payment arrangement for you in the past.
When you leave the property, please let us have the meter readings for the day you move out. We'll close the account to these and issue a final bill. This will show the full amount outstanding.
A new account will be set up for the incoming tenants to cover usage from the time you leave. This will be completely separate from your account.
Usually, when an account closes, we ask for immediate payment in full. However, where there are particular circumstances, we'll look at setting up a suitable payment arrangement.
Talk to us about this as soon as your final bill has been issued so we can put something in place. This will also stop any unwanted follow up.
Hope this is useful bollboll.
