Wedding £500 or under?

Tbh if i was cost cutting I wouldn't bother with formal decorations. Also venue and food options would dictate styling. Ie informal, standup and eat do, negates need for proper table decorations. Banquet roll in a bright colour would be enough to liven up any tables you do have.
Maybe a few helium balloons. Asda sell a canister of gas for £20 including balloons. If you want a set colour scheme look on eBay you can buy packs of balloons for a few quid. Or tea lights and holders are cheap to buy in places like poundland and Wilkos0 -
If its a simple wedding you want and a simple reception why not approach a local pub near the registry office and see if they would just cater a few bits and pieces, mainly something like crisps, nuts etc in exchange for you bringing buisness to them over what mat normally be a quiet time in the middle of the day....
You could just have a few bowls scattered on individual tables and have a cake which you could also serve as part of your "after wedding drinks"frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Exactly what I was going to suggest, go to the registry office / church then go to a local pub, i'm sure they will throw on some sandwiches for you if your bringing 70 odd people to buy their drinks.
As for room hire etc, your going to have to be frank with what you can get with your budget and I don't think you'll stretch to private room hire.0 -
Have you actually set your date in stone? If you havent and youve set it for a Saturday it may be worth looking at if the registry office is cheaper on a weekday- my local registry office can be booked for quite a lot less on weekdays. You may also find a hall is cheaper to hire on a weekday.
You could try websites like freecycle to see if anyone is giving away any wedding bits. I would probably start with a list of what things do you have to have- Im sure you if post your list on here people will be able to give you ideas on how to get these bits for as cheap as possible.0 -
We have pubs and social clubs yhat will let you hire the room for free or £50, you could look around and see if any near you do this.
If the great uncle is a caterer is he going to help?
I can do a large buffet for 100+ for about £100 to £150.
Like others have said a roll of banqueting roll, paper plates and platic cutlery, a few balloons you don't need loads.
What about music? You could make a playlist and play through a laptop or ipod and use the clubs system if they have one. Likewise most clubs have some lights for the disco or look on freecycle for disco lights.
You could have a friend or family member take photos and rope someone in to drive you to the wedding.
Good luck hope you have a lovely time:)Starting to save £2 coins again, but it is a struggle:rotfl:Not doing very well keep spending them

We really only want something simple, we've set the date but registrar says its too early to book anything so told us to go back in a few months time but shes penciled it in the diary. Ive got most of my accessories and bridesmaid accessories off eBay and all in all they came to less than £10, ive got family coming from all over and what to make it a day tat me or my H2B wont forget and also my family. Finding it very difficult as my sister and brother have had traditional weddings. My H2B has spoken to his mother and said her uncle might do it as a wedding gift, so she said she will talk to him, fingers crossed. xMummy to an amazing and beautiful little girl

Time of day can impact the food you need to buy, if your ceremony isnt until later in the day (at the registers office for example) then it would only be sort of an evening buffet you would need to provide as the guests could eat lunch at home or at their own expense etc. Check places like social clubs in your area as where we live these would be the type of places that that offer free or cheap room hire. This would take minimal decoration just a few balloons and banners. We attended just the evening do of someone who did this and and it was lovely. The bar was buy your own and no one minded so it really was just a few balloons and a buffet, oh and a dj, but Im sure that there are ways around that one x0

RE decorations, I'm thinking of filling my village hall with tissue paper flowers/pom poms! Soooo easy to make, and really really cheap too. Make them yourself, don't buy off ebay! It just requires tissue paper in your colours from ebay, florist wire (£1.50 for 100 stems ebay) and some scissors. No skill required. I plan to make garlands and centerpieces by sticking them into borrowed vases, or polystyrene or oasis. Directions here http://imperfectlybeautifulms.blogspot.co.uk/2009/07/how-to-make-tissue-paper-pom-poms.html or loads of other places online give instructions too.
Here were my first few attempts at the flowers (I used one sheet of tissue paper cut into eight). Each one cost around 8p to make.GC2012: Nov £130.52/£125
GC2011:Sept:£215Oct:£123.98Nov:£120Dec:£138Feb:£94.72
