Touch Lamps Problem

Am I the only one that finds when the bulb blows in a touch lamp, it seems to lose the 'touch' facility and can only be turned on and off at the socket. When it happened to me I just assumed the lamp was old and/or duff but I bought a pair at Xmas for my old mum to have by the bed and less than 5 months later the same has happened to one of them. I've checked for a reset button but can't see anything. Any ideas anyone please?

the answer is in the lamps 'bulbs' you are using.
I use the term lamp as a 'bulb is a thing you put in the ground for a flower'
- got it nagged in to my head during an apprenticeship and it has stuck--
When a lamp dies there is a surge and if it is a cheap one the surge is enough to kill any dimmer attached.
The answer, buy branded lamps (osram ; philips; ; sylvania). Decent lamps are internally fused and thus tend not to kill dimmers.
Hope this helps
It goes to show don't buy cheap lamps.baldly going on...0 -
Thank you so much baldelectician. That explanation makes perfect sense! Will remember to say lamps in future too
