Halifax Problems. advice needed.

Hi all
I wonder if you can help me?
every since I got a easycash account with the halifax I have bin having problems trying to put money in and out of my account. when I went to the count, the lady there told me if you want to put money into your account, you will have to use the deposit machine, this has happen not once but 3 or 4 times. I just wondered if anyone else has the same problem, as it's not fair that a staff member should tell you to go to the deposit machine just cos you have a basic bank account. can someone give me some advice on this as I would like to go the the counter and put money in and out of my account just like all the other banks do.

One of the rules of the easycash account is that you don't get access to the counter.

If you don't like it then move to another provider like a building society
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

That's how the account works. Page 5 of this document tells you.

Page 11 also confirms: "You cannot use the branch counter to pay in cash, notes or cheques or deal with routine account matters".

Fair or not, it's the service you agreed to when you signed up for the account.

Other banks and building societies have similar restrictions on some accounts.

Change banks if you can't cope.

Is there a reason why you can't use the machine? Is it a disability issue?

You can't. Halifax EasyCash does not provide full counter services. Read the T+Cs of your account.
Some other providers have similar conditions.
Your only option is to open a new basic account with an organisation that does provide counter services.
  • ok. well thank you all very much for your replies.

  • I understand that basic accounts often operate this way but I don't like the way banks treat basic bank account holders - they're sort of saying yes you can have an account with us but don't expect to treated as a proper customer - very third class. Having said that the OP has had a lucky escape as when I used to bank with the Halifax they were always pressurising me at the counter to take out a product or hassling me to make an appointment with a mortgage advisor! Stick to the machine - much nicer

    I dont see the problem

The bank provides the products in the way they want to, if you dont like it you take it.

    Its very simple

Basic accounts cost money to run as those who have them are not likely to buy any products from the bank

If your having trouble with the machines just ask one of the floor staff as I'm sure they will run you through it, I have a reward account but anytime I go in the branch I use the machines.
    Bad luck breeds bad luck.

    Damn I'm doomed.

Banks don't want to offer basic accounts generally - they lose masses of money on customers who have these accounts. They were pressured to offer them by the government, and so make the terms rather restrictive so that only people who really can't get another account will use it.
At least that's what I was told when I worked for Santander.

    They most certainly do!

At Santander you don't even get a debit card on the basic account.
