Discover the true nature of obsession with the dramatic, dark thriller, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Featuring a stellar ensemble cast including Dustin Hoffman, Alan Rickman, Rachel Hurd-Wood and newcomer Ben Whishaw, under direction of Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), experience the intoxication of Perfume when it is released to buy and rent on DVD on 30th April by Pathé Distribution Ltd.
Based on the best-selling novel by Patrick Suskind, Perfume tells the story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Whishaw, Enduring Love), born into the filth and grime of a Parisian fish market with an exceptional attribute – a phenomenally sophisticated sense of smell.
To survive the neglect of an orphanage, and the horrors of working in the tannery into which he was sold, Jean-Baptiste loses himself in the limitless world of a million different scents. Eventually, he talks his way into an apprenticeship with the perfumer, Baldini (Hoffman, Stranger Than Fiction) and a mutually beneficial relationship ensues. Grenouille creates spectacular scents that begin to resurrect Baldini’s failing career, and Baldini in turn teaches him to distil the essence of scent from matter.
Grenouille’s true calling, however, is to create a perfume so fine that it will intoxicate and enslave nations. He soon discovers that in this quest Baldini cannot aid him, as it involves capturing the world’s purest fragrance, which is found only in the skin and hair of beautiful, young girls.
As Grenouille’s obsession with perfection grows, a series of horrific murders take place. With each kill, another ingredient is added, but the creation will not be complete without the essence of the exquisite Laura, (Hurd-Wood, An American Haunting) daughter of the powerful and infuential Richis (Rickman, Love Actually)…
