Does re-decorating help sell a property?

I was going to say white for the kitchen doors, as you don't really want too many colours in a fairly confined space. However it depends if you could get a good enough coverage - otherwise it might just look worse if the red shows through.
What condition are the units in? If they are likely to be ripped out and replaced by the purchaser anyway then I really wouldn't spend too much time or money on it, as you can't second guess what will appeal to a buyer.
I like the tiles, but there are too many other things going on, and it would look a lot more spacious if it was all in white. Keep the blind though, that's nice.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

The units are in good condition. It shouln't be that expensive to paint them, should it?0 -
wow that is an "old lady" flat. Which is great if she is trying to sell to the retirement market, otherwise get that wallpaper in the lounge covered ASAP! I had the same stuff in my house when I moved in and can vouch that three coats of paint will indeed cover it0

If I were looking at it I would have to take into account that the entire place needs to be redecrated.
If I were you I'd do something about it as it looks very dated and claustrophobic.0 -

any de-cluttering suggestions? I have read to remove the rugs but anything else? Shall I suggest she remove the paintings of her wall? Not alot else to remove apart from furniture which she obviously needs as she has her stuff in them.0

The pictures need rehanging so that the top edges are all at the same level. Or better still remove all but one or two of the most tasteful ones, provided this doesn't expose faded patches behind or around where they were, not that this will matter if you do go for the paint route.
All these hits on the Rightmove link will get them thinking there is suddenly a lot of interest in it!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I know.......how funny!
To be honest, she has had sooooo many viewers (4 this week alone) and then they see the place and we never hear from them again! She is desperate to move 'cos she has a 14month baby and needs more room!0 -
You will never please all of the people, all of the time. Actually, I quite like the wallpaper, but then I'm probably the "old lady" that Gem is on about :rotfl:
It's vital that your sis understands her target market. I would suggest young, single (or possibly a "new" couple) and definitely FTBs. They will almost certainly not "look past the decor" as bubblegum2 suggests. They will buy on the "total look", so I would go so far as to paint all the walls in neutral cream shades and even buy some throws to go over the sofas. Lose the rugs (store them) and show off the wooden flooring. I might even think about the light fittings
I would also change the duvet cover on the bed - again, a neutral base, but maybe with a splash of contrast.
Sorry, this is turning into a complete makeover, but it might be the only way :rolleyes:Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
