Hi Gang, I transferred over to first utility a few months ago and have just received my second bill. It is for a huge amount, although I acknowledge the xmas tree was on etc.

we used:108 units of gas at 3.434p per kwh
713 units of elec at 9.27p per kwh.
This bill is from 1st dec-31st so 30 days worth.

My bill is £205.09p for 30 days use. I am sickened by this, can anyone tell me if it is right? It does convert it on the bill but I am not good with maths so any help would REALLY be appreciated.

I did google how to do it,and came up with a person who used 220units of gas and this worked out at 200o odd kwh.

first utility have worked out we used 3377.381 kwh gas and 713kwh elec in this 30 day period.
I am rambling now, but any help appreciated.
Thanks!

    Looks fine to me.

Did you read the meter at the beginning and end of month?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Hi,

are they actual readings or estimated, if estimated, read the meters and contact supplier with correct readings.
  • Hi, They are actual readings we provided, we do this every month. Just seems like a huge amount!!!
    Thanks for your replies x

From the info in your post it can be gleaned that the person on google has a Metric Gas meter marked m3, which delivers roughly 11Kwh per meter unit, whilst your meter is an Imperial model marked ft3, which produces roughly 31 Kwh per meter unit - Have a look at your meter

Without knowing more details of your home, it's equipment and family size it's not really possible to comment on the billing.

However whilst high winter Gas bills are a fact of life, perhaps there is more concern over the Elec costs as these will roughly the same all year long, so the 713Kwh you used in 31 days equates to 8,395 Kwh a year - almost 3 times more than the average home

Please post house & family details if you want further comment, but in the meantime keep a weekly record of your meter readings as posts on this site show FU do not have the most accurate billing system in the industry

    713kWh in a month? Thats almost 24kWh per day. That's a lot.

3377 kWh of gas is a lot too - over 4.5kWh per hour, every hour of every day on average.
Your supplier appears to believe you have an old imperial gas meter.
You should double check this is the case, else they may be charging you 3x more for your gas than they should.

  • It's all relative, my electric use (no gas) in Dec 2350 units = £227

Do you have an older electric meter with dials as you may have misread it. Gas usage depends on size of house really.
    In Progress!!!
