Hi everyone,
I tried to get a refund on a credit balance with eon and they asked me to give meter reading. They discovered my meter had stopped working and think this happened march 2011. I pay by direct debit and have a £1600 credit balance. They want to exchange my meter and investigate why it stopped working. Can I insist on a Saturday appt to change meter, how far back can they charge me and how soon
must they refund balance due?

Help ..

You have already paid the bill so they can readjust the bills going all the way back to March 2011 if they want. If you hadn't been paying by direct debit they could only back bill 12 months.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

no you cant insist on saturdays, its upto the meter operator
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Thanks for replies

I cannot take time off work without losing money so where would I stand then?
How likely are they to go back to march 2011?
Should I stop direct debit now?
  • I can t see why you can t insist on a Saturday appointment, I would nt want to be taking precious holiday days, or losing a days pay. My smart meter was exchanged on a Saturday afternoon ( Brit Gas ). I requested that time slot, they had people working all day Saturdays

It depends on the mops, for example lowriebeck refuse to, but meter plus and bg do sats.

Simply ring and arrange a mutually agreeable appointment. If they dont do saturdays then its too bad for them isnt it.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Ive just found that my meter has stopped working (Last weekend).Rang scottish power and they asked me what day and time would be suitable for me.They came out and put a new meter in and said they would work the bill out by looking at last years consumption for Oct to Jan...I would say if only sat is convenient for you then they will have to do it on a saturday.

I had a similar issue where the supplier would only come out on a weekday to change the meter, I told them i thats all they could do then get the installer to call me 10 minutes before he gets here and I will come home from work to let him in - simple you would think, but they couldn't do this.

As a result for two years I kept coming home to cards saying that they had been around to change the meter - I kept phoning them back to tell them to phone me before they come - in they end they came around when I had a week off work.

That left a huge issue with a meter that had not moved for some time - I had continued paying the monthly direct debit, so the accont was showing a huge balance as a result. The best they could do for an estimate was take meter readings over a two week period and average it out - as a result the conclusion was they decided they owed me £400!

In short stick to your guns an insist that they change it at a time to suit you (If you can hold it off now to the summer). Then tell them after they change it due to the length of time the meter has not moved you don't want the bills to based on historic readings (Due to changed circumstances) and would rather they used an average over a period of time - and then keep your electricity usage to an absolute minimum over that period!

What people forget is meter operators change the meters, not suppliers and you can ask but they are the ones that say when they operate in areas. If a meter is not recording dont forget they also have the rights of entry act.

Inregards to 10 min phone calls, a lot will fail as the engineers dont always have phones or some cant be bothered
