Card security

Subject: FOR YOUR INFO.......RFID Chip on your Credit Cards Very Important please see this video

These type of cards are beginning to be issued in the UK now, so thought the warning from the States is relevant.

Be Careful of RFID Chip on your cards……….

Wi-Fi Symbol on your Credit Card

YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING. WATCH VIDEO AND CHECK YOUR CARDS.
Check your newer credit cards for the Wi-Fi Symbol on it. You need to
watch the video below to really know why I sent this to you.

I read this about a couple weeks ago, and then checked my cards for
the little "Wi-Fi Signal Icon" on each one. I found none w/that sign
on them, but I was determined to watch for it when my cards came in on
renewals. Well, yesterday I got my renewal card AND THERE IT WAS!
My first time to see it. I'll not activate that card after seeing
this. I guess I'll go to the bank and see if I can replace it w/a non
Wi-Fi (Radio Frequency Card)....?

Thought all my contacts ought to see this if you've not already seen
this demo....wow!

Do you seriously believe that card providers would release a type of card that exposed them to such a high risk of losing money.

In the whole time our customers have had access to these cards. We have had ONE case of fraud using contactless.
This includes thousands of cases where people have had their cards stolen at ATMS...
The idiots who steal the cards do not use contactless, they get the cash and bin the cards.

Now stop watching scare video's and get on with your life....

US cards are much easier cards to decrypt as they have MSD contactless (Magstripe based).

    Contactless fraud is possible, yes.

So is chip and pin fraud.

Fraud can also happen when you use it at a shop or modified ATM.

They can also generate random valid card numbers and stumble across your card number.

The only to ensure 0% fraud is to have no bank account and keep the cash at home.

The OP is obviously the type of gullible idiot that forwards/copy-pastes anything that his equally gullible contact list sends him/her.

They probably also reply to emails from Nigerian Princes offering them a share of millions.

A quick google of "I read this about a couple weeks ago, and then checked my cards for the little "Wi-Fi Signal Icon" on each one." shows that the exact text has been posted everywhere by equally gullible idiots.

My main concern with the use of RFID on cards is that it allows the powers that be to monitor your exact movements/whereabouts 24/7 - for that reason I have invested in a lead-lined wallet to keep my cards in. ;)

@OP - it is a scientifically proven fact that each time you post this type of 'information' your deemed IQ decreases by 1% - if I was you I would immediately forward that information on to your contact list before they are all deemed to be vegetables.
  • Contactless cards do represent a risk that will increase as their use becomes more widespread. The risk is with the card owner, not the bank. How large that risk becomes remains to be seen.

I have no problem with this facility being offered. What I do object to is it being forced on consumers for the convenience of banks.

My main bank account debit card has just been replaced with a new card that has this facility. I do not want it but I am told I can't have the card without it. The Financial Ombudsman's office has told me that this must have been agreed between the Office and the banks (or banks).

I suspect than soon - or even now - this will apply to every bank and every card.

Why are consumers being forced to accept this risk?
I would very much like Martin to comment on this.

Are you sure of this? Because under PSD (payment services directive) the reverse is true.

This is something customer and retailers have wanted NOT the banks.

Yes. It will soon be on every card. As that is what Visa and Mastercard are providing.

I have said this before and will say it again...

Do you seriously believe that the banks would release a insecure system????
