Potential landlord insisting on paying for broadband

We are due to move into a rental in two weeks time and the landlord has suddenly insisted that they pay for the phone rental and broadband use. Their argument is that the last tenants cancelled the phone and the landlord incurred a cost to sort out a new one. Can anyone think of anything bad that could come of this?

Dimbo61 is right. Most broadband contracts are for 18 months. Most ASTs are for 6 or 12 months. Tenant is better off with this arrangement.

Landlord has said he will bear the cost. Contract is between LL and ISP.

There should be no issues, providing tenant knows how to contact the provider in the event of a problem. So LL should give him details of contract ref, and phone number or email address for ISP.
