Shuffle on iPod Touch 5

Frustration with shuffle options on new ipod 5! Cannot get this to work properly. I have the 'shake to shuffle' option set but nothing happens. Have also tried touching the shuffle symbol but without success. It only seems to offer a shuffle within an album. I Like the Genius function but sometimes want a completely random mix.

Can anyone confirm the following please:

1. On the above you can only shuffle within an album not randomly across all tracks (as my old nano did)? I found a help question where someone said you could set a tunes shuffle on iTunes and sync it but i can't find this option at all.

try this: list all your tracks/songs and go to the top of the list - there should be a shuffle option there

Thanks! I knew that there must be a simple answer. My mistake was to go to the first track on an album (where you can see the repeat, genius and shuffle symbols) and select the shuffle option.
