Last night I bought some fresh cheese and tomato stuffed tortellini from Tesco at the rather inflated price of £1.59 for 600g. I usually buy the £1 3kg bags from Tesco but my defence is that I got some extra clubcard points if I bought it (not enough to make it free, but I don't think I've had tortellini before, so am using it as an excuse to try it)
Anyway, I've decided to have it for dinner tonight but am stuck what to cook it with . I was tempted to just make a basic tomato, garlic and herb sauce to pour over it or is that not the done thing to do with pasta that's already stuffed? I think it'd be a bit dry if just cooked it and served it plain
Thanks in advance guys!

Cream or Sour Cream. And some nice bread!SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0

I would keep it simple - melted butter and freshly grated parmesan cheese.NSD 0/150

Both of the suggestions sound lovely, so think I'll let BF decide when he comes home from work.
Thank you0 -
some pesto and sauted veg would be lovely"A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining, but wants it back the minute it begins to rain." Mark Twain0

Ooh, that sounds delicious too. Thank you0 -
I would usually just use some kind of tomato sauce and maybe some cheese if I fancied it. It is very dry on its own0

once you have cooked the pasta, and the sauce, add the sauce to the pasta and mix it all up in one pan rather than pour the sauce over it, works great.
I usually make a fairly plain herby tomato sauce, sometimes with a little cream cheese or ricotta, sometimes with some smoked sausage. Whatever way you cook it, its gonna be tasty0 -

Its how you would get it in Italy.
Starter: Slice a big tomato, onion (not compulsory, especially for "romantic" dinners!) and a dollop of mozzarella. Arrange slices artistically on small plates, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with chopped basil. Also some foccaccia bread.
Main Course: Tortellini with simple "ragu" sauce (using the rest of the basil) and topped with grated parmesan cheese. Also the remainder of the foccaccia bread to mop up the sauce.
Dessert: Tiramisu, from chilled shelf/cabinet (S*d it, its far too fiddly to make yourself)!
A meal, fit for a Roman emperor, not just a King.
The tortellini that is half green, half "white" is fun as, with the red sauce, you have the colours of the Italian flag. A lot of tortellini varieties don't contain meat, which is useful if there is any possiblity your guest might tell you at the last minute that they are vegetarian. If they are vegan, you're b*gg*r*d because of all the cheese, but you should have spotted this about them from their eyebrows and ears! The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
the tomato, garlic and basil sauce is what we would dress it with in Italy most of the time, however the other suggestions are also quite apt.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
