With regards to HMRC, I don't think I've ever received anything from them in the 4 years I've lived in the UK, and definitely not in the 6 months I've lived at this address. Do you think I can just call them up and request some sort of tax statement?
Yes, you should ask them what your tax code is. And your National Insurance Number.
There are many different ways to contact HMRC http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/contactus/home.page
it's prudent to contact them before they contact you0 -
OK - I looked through my documents and I do have a few things from HMRC, but they are with my old address on it. I wasn't aware the P60 was from HMRC, thought it was from my employer.
I'll give them a call on Monday and update my address etc and get them to send something.
Thanks!

Some banks won't accept a P60.0

I received the exact same email when I applied for 1st account the other week.
I phoned a local estate agent and made an appointment, they were able to certify a copy of my driving license. I paid £30 for the service.
I have since sent the certified copy to First Direct, my account was opened the following day.
I did phone HRMC and asked for a copy of tax notification and was told this would be sent within two weeks. Im still waiting!
Documents can not be certified in HSBC branch I was told this when I spoke to First Direct.0 -

 £30, gulp! You could have that (and more) for £7.50 at the Post Office. http://www.postoffice.co.uk/document-certification-service0 -
.............which many banks etc will not accept because the PO desk clerk doing the counter signing is not themselves personally FSA approved so cannot sign with their FSA number stated alongside.
Solicitors etc will be OK as they handle client money so will be FSA approved to do this so can sign with their FSA authorisation Number.
Yes P60's are often not accepted - they are produced by employers.
PAYE notice of coding which comes from HMRC is usually acceptable.0 -
Even a random High Street Solicitor only charged me £10 for certifying my passport. £30 is extortionate.
First time I hear that people who certify documents must be FSA certified, or that any bank asks for certification by an FSA-authorised person - have you got any references to bank websites where they say that?0 -
Surely anyone prepared to accept an estate agent's certification should accept the Post Office one.
There's no control over who is an estate agent anyway.0 -
I think we're all missing the point. Why on earth would you persist in trying to open a bank account with a bank that makes you jump through more hoops than an illegal immigrant obtaining a job at the local council.
Is there any particular reason why you feel you need to bank with this outfit?
Find someone else more reasonable and less unhelpful.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

The organisation is only working to the parameters that have been set by UK law. The application is not face 2 face either. The majority of applications with financial institutions can be verified electronically by credit and voters roll checks, however is the applicant has had several addresses, no previous credit or isn't on the voters roll what else can they do.
With First Direct could you not ask a HSBC branch to certify them for you? Or why not contact First Direct for other alternatives.0
