EDF changed my tariff!

I noticed on a recent bill from EDF that they had changed my tariff from Online Saver to Standard Variable tariff. I was not informed that they were going to do this. I phoned their customer service number and was advised that yes they had changed my tariff as the original tariff was no longer on offer. I've raised a complaint with them.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Are they allowed to change your tariff without consulting you? I fear I have been paying more than I should and wonder if I could Liam the difference back.

Any advice would be great fully received! :)

  • You do not say which online saver you had but I am guessing version 10.
Those special tariffs had and end date , the version 10 was end Sep 2012.
This was made clear on signing up as was their intention to move you onto the standard tariff.
Ideally you should have negotiated a better tariff with them or switched to another provider.
I am afraid EDF are correct in this instance, your only get out is to plead that they should have given you notice just before the expiry date.

When a fixed-period tariff ends, you are transferred to the default tariff, as would have been stated in the T&C's. It's up to you to then pick a new tariff.
You would have been informed by post, by email, or via a message in your online account, that the tariff was coming to an end.
So absolutely no chance of any compensation.

This thread should read, I signed up for something and didnt read its t&cs
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

They must give notice that your fixed-term tariff is about to mature - even of it was always "clear" that the tariff had an end date.

The only issue is whether or not notice was given. In the first instance you need to ask Edf the form and date of the required notice. Likely this will be one person's word against another though it is open to you to challenge any assertion forensically starting with the preceding bill and any emails or messages in MyAccount.

The easy learning point is more self awareness next time.
