Relocated - now house husband, benefits?

We have moved in with the inlaws whilst we build ourselves a house. My job was too far away so I quit, and am at home about half of each day with the kids looking after them, my wife has gone from part to full time as she earns more than me and works 5 mins from our new location it made sense to do this.

My question is what benefits can I claim, if any. I might not be able to work at all until the house is complete and the kids are both at preschool in 2 years, we were finding the nursery fees crippling even when my wife was working part time and they were going 3 days a week £1100 per month although we both used our voucher allowance.

As a stay at home dad, its a bit different standing in the playground with the mums (all of whom seem to have top end German sportscars!)

Depending on your wife's income, I would think you might just get child allowance - I can't see any reason for other benefits without more details.

If it was the other way round and you were working full time while your wife stayed at home, she wouldn't qualify for anything except child allowance, provided your salary was above the income support threshold.

You can't claim JSA unless you are available for work, which it sounds like you are not.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

You should make sure you've claimed your tax credits entitlement.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

You would be the best person to have child benfit paid to as it will protect your pension as you have given up work I think its called Home Rights

You're right ellawood. It's called Home Responsibilities Protection.

My husband is a 'house husband' and get's nothing. We get CB and CTC - that's it. My wages (all £394 per month of them) mean we earn too much for any other help. Would be worth having the CB in your name though as all the previous posters have said.
