Item not as descibed-neutral feedback and dispute question

bare bones: I bought an item listed as in 'excellent condition' and 'good working order' but had to have it serviced to free a seized part, clean rust off it and to replace a bulb. Would I be able to raise a dispute to reclaim the cost of the service? I haven't laft feedback yet, have contacted seller to let them know I am will be leaving a neutral feedback and am considering raising a dispute for the cost of the service.
Any suggestions/help please?

  • i'm guessing its a car?

If so and you paid cash then it may be difficult to get some money back. I wouldnt leave feedback yet but raise a case and see what happens.

I bought a car which said it had been serviced. I dipped the oil on the sellers drive and it was dirty. Their response was some irrelevant drivel which roughly translated as 'damn, I wasnt expecting him to actually check...'.

Because I noticed on their drive I could think whether I still wanted to go ahead - it was only a cheap car and I serviced it myself for £30. In the end I just left bad feedback as they wouldnt refund the cost of a service.

You should have contacted the seller to resolve first.

You should always give the seller a chance to rectify.

As you have already had the work done, you would be hard pushed to gain anything from any dispute.
  • Unfortunately vehicles aren't covered under Buyer Protection so opening a case wouldn't see any type of refund if it was a car.

  • I agree - contact the seller and state that item not as listed to see what their response is - they may offer a partial refund? Most sellers are fair in my experience - unfortunately someone has just left me negative feedback for an item they said is not as described - it was an item that I listed as having dents and scratches which were visible on photo - I think they paid far too much for the item but that is their fault probably got carried away! but if they had contacted me I always offer a refund if not happy so all this could have been avoided.

  • No. it's not a car.
I did not expect to have to pay a further £75 to have an item serviced that was described as in 'excellent condition' and 'good working order'.
I have contacted the seller and am awaiting their reply before I do anything else.

because it was an item I particularly wanted (and needed) and they are not very easy to come by now. I had not realised I might be able to raise a dispute about the additional service cost until someone commented on it, hence the question here about whether I might be able to get a refund, or partial refund for the additional cost.
I want to keep the item.

As you've already had the work done without giving the seller a chance to rectify i.e. He might have known someone to service and repair it for free.

By getting the work done, you've blown your chance.

By mentioning leaving a neutral, then this will be seen as blackmail, so if you do leave a neg/neutral, he can now have it removed.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Unfortunately what might seem to be a very logical solution to a problem I agree with the above, you have rather shot yourself in the foot now.

As a business seller I am aware of my obligations and for any unhappy buyer would instantly offer a full refund on return. I would not be looking to pay repair costs though and neither do I entertain partial refunds anymore as that can indicate a buyer is a 'chancer'.

Whilst I am sure you were looking for a good solution here by getting a repair done, asking for a partial refund and mentioning leaving a neutral you have just flagged yourself as a potential scammer.
