    Hi Sweetie.

Now there is no need to feel lonely we are all in the same boat to varying degrees. Now I'm relatively new (Lightbulb moment was 16th April 07) But I would say that some of your bills (gas and electric) seem a bit high. Is there any chance that you can drop your food bill a little, this seems high for 3 of you.

My other suggestion would be to pop your APR's onto you SoA so we can see what interest your paying.

Remember we will help and advise as much as we can.

    Take care
    Current debt - £16,300 :(
    Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek:

Sorry I vaguely remember your first but can't remember if you have contacted anyone for help yet or not?

Please don't feel so down on yourself we have all been there to varying degrees.

I am not very good with these SOA I don't feel comfortable scrutinsing them. But there is help out there and it is not as bleak as it feels to you right now. Once you get started on tackling them you will feel better!

Im sure you could get a better deal with this maybe if you went to same provider for all eg Virgin media etc

Also with your gas and electric you could use cashback site to switch to a provider who is cheaper.

I find doing the food shopping online such as tesco, you stick to your list rather than impulse buys plus you can use the codes to get money off your bill and earn extra points. I did my first shop on tesco online 2 days ago..normally spend 100pounds a week at least... on the site i spent 69pounds..so big saving of 30quid a week makes huge difference.

Your Egg loan is for £5,100, not £51,000 as you have listed.

There you go, I've nearly halved your debt in one sentence! ;) Seriously, it's horrible when you have lots of creditors as you get loads more hassle. I've been there and done that. However the plus side is it's unlikely that the threats made to you will be carried out as all these creditors will have much bigger fish to fry. It may also help when setting up arrangements. I stongly suggest you get an appointment to speak to CCCS or Payplan. Both these organisations will give you fantastic advice and options tailored to your specific position.

    Good luck!
Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
    Debt free 21st Oct 2011.

    All thanks to :money:

Hi lonelytoo - you're right, you are not alone.....this site is amazing for finding support when you're feeling low. I hope you wont think I'm speaking out of turn, but does anyone know you got to the point of suicide? Have you had a chat to the doctor? The reason I ask is that many people on here suffer with depression, and it really helps if you tackle the depression at the same time as the debts. Your health is the most important thing.

Just a few comments on your SOA - firstly, fantastic news that you are able to increase your hours, that should help.

The water rates are high at £90 per month - are you in arrears at all? How many months is this over? I'm sure some people have mentioned that they used to pay it over 8 months but have asked for it to be over 12 months, so reducing the monthly amount - it might be worth asking?

The £450 for food etc could easily be reduced - is that for 3 of you? We have a food budget of £250 for 3 (soon to be 4) of us, which includes cleaning stuff/toiletries etc and even occasional bit of clothing. It works out at just under £60 per week, and we manage to eat a healthy, well balanced diet with loads of fresh fruit and veg on that, so there is room to bring it down quite a lot.

Do you need 2 cars? Is there any way you could share one car (I know this isn't always possible, because we can't do it, but thought it was worth suggesting). Have you looked into things like car sharing etc? Do you have any local schemes for anything like that?

Are you managing to make the minimum repayments on everything? If so, have a look at the snowball calculator which will help you decide which debt to throw any spare money at. If you're not managing, perhaps try speaking to either Payplan or CCCS who will be able to go through your options with you.

Do you know the APRs of your various debts?

Most of all, don't be too hard on yourself and don't be frightened of bully-boy tactics from the likes of Link Financial.

    Love Snaggles xx

    Hey Lonely,

The great thing about MSE and espcially the DFW crew is we're all is this together.... when one person hurts we can all relate..... when another clears a debt we all rejoice,....(well at least I do)..

And the reason I do is because it gives me hope., that one day I too will know what its like to be totally DEBT FREE....Unfortunately we are grim reality of Gordon Browns UK economy, houses that no-one, working class and lower-middle class being taxed till we're blue in the face, it all adds up.. Yes we made mistakes.... bought things we shouldn't have, fooled ourselves for far too long that we could 'handle it' ..when the truth was we could just about keep our heads above water..

Don't fret....what may seem like an mountain of debt is in reality just another challenge for you to overcome. And we'll be here supporting you all the way... cheering you on and keeping you on the straight an narrow .....(becasue like all things there will be temptations !!!!)

Keep your head up !!!!! your already winning the war against your debt !!!!

    Hi there,

There is unquestionably saving to be made within your budget as others have suggested. However, realistically I don't think there is enough there to significantly reduce the debt in the way you'd like. Therefore, it is very important that you talk to either CCCS or payplan in order that you can find a way forward.

Also, I know you've said that you don't want to tell your OH and I don't know the reasons why BUT it is going to be very difficult to keep this from your OH and tackle it in the way you'd like.

    I wish you well.
