How much was this mortgage you paid off?

How much of the capital had you paid through the mortgage?

I'm sorry but as others have said frozen assets is a very serious thing and I don't see how this transaction could take place. It is likely this transaction could make everything much worse as he will be seen as clearly trying to hide his assets.

When I bought my first property my grandmother provided most of my deposit and if I remember correctly we had to provide a copy of the building society book showing where the money had come from and I think her solicitor also wrote a letter.
  • Thankyou everybody. You have given me the advice that I think I already knew. I need to buy the house myself in my own name. Or not. Whatever happens, I have a roof over my head for the rest of my life.

Absolutely right! The way you were going, there was a reasonable chance it might have been a prison roof. This way, it will be your own.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

But what about the house you own with your deceased ex-SIL, where you say your ex-BIL resides ?

That's a property you either already wholly or partly own - is there any reason why you feel that depsite legal ownership, you wouldn't want to claim your right to own and reside there, and instead try and buy the property you already live in ?

Even if you didn't want to reside in the other property, you could sell it and use the (net of CGT) proceeds to wholly or partly fund the purchase of you current home. I feel its utter madness to just ignore its presence and your legal right to reside or source capital from it.

    Hope this helps

    Holly
