Kitten peed on my bed!

We have two eight month old kittens. One of them every couple of weeks would pee on our bed for no apparent reason (we have two dirt trays, always clean, etc). We had to keep getting the duvet dry cleaned and using special pet odour remover / cleaner on the bed then he completely stopped doing it and he hasn't done it in over five months.

Last night we went out and got a new dirt tray for them, a jumbo sized open tray because one of the dirt trays we had was a little small for them (a domed lid one). We also moved one dirt tray from kitchen to where the old small dirt tray was and moved the new dirt tray to a new location. We showed both kittens the new dirt tray, put them in it, etc.

This morning the kitten in question jumped up on the bed and I after a minute or so I noticed him scratching, looked and he had peed on the bed

I have now moved the dirt tray back in the kitchen and put the new one where old small one was.

What do you think made him do this? To get to the bedroom he had to go past one of his old dirt trays so he could have just gone in there - it is in exactly the same place as before just a different dirt tray but one he has always used. They have both also use open lid trays before.

I really don't want him to start peeing on the bed again! Any ideas?

He felt the desire to empty a full bladder.

The problem is now that it is turning into a habit so perhaps the bedroom had better be out of bounds for a month or so!- or perhaps forever seeing as he did this in the past.
