Hi,
Wondered if anyone can please help me. Yesterday I parked my car in a council run car park where I live. I had with me baby and my friend, there are no car park spaces dedicated for parents with children. So i went up towards the top level of the multi storey as there is a link bridge access for shopping centre. When i returned to my car I had a fixed notice saying that I had £60 fine, reduced to £30 is padi within 14 days for parking outside the white parking bay. I did park very slightly over because the car to my left had with hindsight parked slightly over, but i did have to get the buggy out and baby from the car etc. I heard somewhere that parking tickets issued on car parks is illegal, does anyone know anything about this??? I did speak to the security guy and he said that i'd have to appeal it and say about no parent and child spaces but I need as much info as possible please. TO add insult the parking attendant were laughing as I drove out of the car park and the car parked opposite me was parked slap bang in the middle of 2 spaces without a ticket being issued!!! Please help asap or point me in the direct of any website that may assist me, thanks:mad:

If it is a local authority (Council) run car park then the bye laws will apply. Usually the same as on street parking enforcement penalty. Private car parks (ie supermarkets, shopping malls, DIY Sheds and the like) are a differnt kettle of fish.
Your best bet is try and appeal and go for the sympathy angle. It may work if you're very lucky. Good luck.0 -
Many thanks "waster" i'll give it a go, if anyone else has any news please let me know0

Here is a link to the Parking Tickets forum:

It helps if you can scan the paperwork and post it, preferably blurring personal details out, here is a post about posting images:

I believe a popular mistake is where councils issue a Penalty Charge Notice instead of an Excess Charge Notice.0 -
hmmmm maybe parking a coldwater fish in a multistorey car park isnt allowed? Carp parking ticket???
Joking aside, there is a dedicated forum on the consumeraction group

Really can't see what your grounds are ? if the council are charging you for taking two spaces and thats what happened, well difficult to see why not, if the appeal is because there are no extra wide spaces (which I do love parking in it so saves the car bodywork ) are you saying you cannot park in a single bay and get kids out a car? dont think that one will work either.
I would pay up and put it down to experience or it will get you so het up it really isnt worth it, and yes the council employees clearly didnt help matters but that reflects todays society. Our local council employ inbreds with the loudest shouts you can imagine to collect the bins at 7am, takes all sorts.0
