Applied for a natwest select account

I tried a sole application but was just offered the basic account so my partner and I decided to try for a joint account and were offered the select account. We got the application form through the post and just had to sign and send back they didn't require any id. The letter states that once the signed form is returned they will open the account. My question is does this mean we have been accepted or will they credit check us again? We asked for a cheque book but no overdraft.
Thanks

IMO the letter said this pretty clearly.

You've not allowed for the AVU. RBS further review applications once the account is opened, it's not unknown for an account to be closed shortly after the applicant has received all the documentation.

I believe that it's not unknown, but I don't believe that it's common.

I would imagine your application will be reviewed by AVU on return of the application.

Their is also a possibly you will get a decline letter a day or two after you get the forms.

Wait and see I've seen it happen to a friend who had opened an account with Natwest / RBS. They were sent account number debit card and pin then one week later after the strange AVU department, closed the account without any explanation.

Be prepared to meet the AVU I would reckon.

They are the real "men in black" of the account opening world.

  • rbs and natwest screwed me over

both offered me account, i signed, took in ID

then they didnt even contact me, i had to phone after like 2 weeks for them to say i was declined

so the acceptance letter means nothing
