Barclays bank owes me £1364.09 (inc interest) and offered me £800. I wrote them a letter saying I will accept £800 as part payment and will carry on to court for the rest unless they are willing to offer me more like £1100. I sent this letter by recorded delivery almost 2 weeks ago saying they have 14 days to reply or i will take them to court. I called my bank today to get an update and they told me they havent received my letter and the £800 they offered me was full and final settlement and is not negotiable. I told him ok and if I havent had a letter by tuesday which is when the 14 days are up I will take them to court. I am really worried now that I will have lost everything. I am a single mother and think I was being a bit greedy when I turned down £800 but I still feel I wanted more than £800 as they owe me £564.09 more than they offered. Can anyone help me with what I have to do next please. I have heared I dont have to pay for court costs as I am on benefits, is this true? Please please help I am so connfussed, thanks esther xxx

You are NOT being greedy. This is your money and they are just trying stalling tactics. Don't be afraid of taking them to court! You will get all your money back eventually!
They have taken your money doubly unlawfully as they are not allowed by law to touch benefits so don't let them get away with it!
Go to your local court with proof of your benefits and fill in the forms there as I believe you cannot file a claim online if you are on benefits.

I was also worried cause on the TV it was saying something about the end of April the banks were having a meeting about what they were going to do with the bank charges, something about lowering the charges to about £12 or £14 and you can only claim back the difference. Did anyone else watch this or does anyone have any information on it?0

If they lower their charges, you can still claim the whole amount. The OFT recommended that credit card companies only charge £12, and we still claimed back the whole amount.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

hi
get hold of the Post Office and ask them when the recorded delivery letter was delivered and who signed for it. That is what you paid for.
Then write to Barclays and complain that they are not acting properly.
In the meantime, keep you chin up. Even if you "go to court" they will keel over before it gets before the judge, as long as you actually turn up on the day.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
