I'm looking to buy a new laptop but see that many come with Windows 8 now, which is something I certainly don't want. I've only just got the hang of Windows 7 after switching from good old XP.
So I'm after a laptop with Windows 7 but haven't really got a clue what spec to look out for. From reading other threads it seems the intel i5 is the way to go? And I gues 4GB RAM is the norm these days? I'm looking to spend around £400. Laptop wil be used for all the MS office packages, surfing, streaming iplayer etc. Not for gaming.
Would be grateful for any advice.

4GB of RAM and an i5 processor will be more than adequate if you are simply running office programs, surfing and emailing. Look for W7 Home Premium and a minimum 320GB (pref nearer 500GB) hard drive.
Laptops are still available with W7 but will obviously become increasingly scarcer in the next couple of months. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I got a Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 last month and I love it.
It was £330 on ebuyer
It's got an i3 processor, but since I don't use it for gaming or things processor-intensive, it's really enough for my needs.Being brave is going after your dreams head on0 -
Was looking in PC world to get a feel of the laptops and they said if I bought one they'd have to install the OS on it, personalise it for you and you'd have to come back the next day to collect it. Is this standard practice? I thought the software came pre-installed?
If buying from a tesco store or other retailers is it the same rigmarole?0 -
Unless you asked them to install W7 over a W8 installation, they are trying to extract more cash out of you, the operating system will be pre-installed.

By all means do your research at PCW. Buy there at your peril. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Thought as much. PC World is to computing what Halfords is to cars. Would you like me to fit that windscreen wiper for £2.99? No I'd like you to shine it up nice, turn it sideways and put it where the sun don't shine.0
