help with theater break please

Options
hey everyone

I am planning an overnight stay in London with my eldest child who is 8. We want to go and see Mama Mia but I don't know where to even start!

I am looking for tickets to the show, and a hotel that is close to the actual theater. If I can get away with it I don't want to have to get the tube from the hotel to the theater, I would rather walk from the hotel.

Can anyone give me some advice on booking tickets to the show, and a hotel close by?

Thanks in advance

You're going to have to book the 2 seperately, I would imagine.
I'd start with looking at the theatre availability and take it from there.
What's your budget - unless you can get a good deal off lastminute or somewhere, it looks to be in an expensive part of town, hotelwise.

This might give you an idea, but there are other sites if you google.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

When are you planning on going ? If in the next few weeks, then ther 'get into london theatre' promotion, which runs until 18th February has cheap tickets.

Checking up on the show, it seems to have moved recently, to the Novello in Aldwych. If you're looking for a cheap hotel, then the Covent Garden Travelodge isn't too far away - you'd just have a pretty simple walk down the length of Drury Lane.

Which aspect(s) are you struggling with, if you 'don't know where to start'?

If I google the show title, the first website to result from the search is the show's homepage, which immediately offers '4 easy ways' to book tickets for the show

    http://www.mamma-mia.com/mammamia_london_tickets_DMT.asp?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=mamma%2Bmia%20cpc

The Venue and Access Details page on the website tells us - The Novello Theatre is situated on Aldwych, off The Strand.

For hotels, google 'hotels near strand' or 'hotels near covent garden', or pick another landmark in the area to substitute in the google search......

Google maps indicates the nearest hotel to be the Waldorf Hilton, which appears to be next door to the theatre - is this likely to fit your budget?

I always find travelling by bus around London is preferable to the tube. You get a better sense of where you are and you get to see the sights! If you travel by train, your travelcard, or Oyster is valid on the bus.

Unless you've got a fairly large budget you wont be able to get a hotel walking distance from the theatre. You could try airbnb.com

I guess it depends on how you define a 'fairly large budget' and 'walking distance from the theatre' but the flexible rate for the Covent Garden Travelodge is £73 many nights, including most Fridays. It's a bit more expensive on Saturdays.

and if you book a few months in advance the cheaper non-flexible 'saver' rates are around £50 -thats pretty good for central London.
