Large electric bill

We moved in to a 2 bedroomed flat 6 months ago and left last week.
We just recieved our electric bill from Powergen for being there (didn't recieve one whilst at the property) and it's £740!
The initial meter readings were taken by our letting agents and submitted directly to Powergen as we didn't have access to the electric meter cupboard (under lock and key) but we managed to gain access to take the final meter readings ourselves.
We have e7 and an electric boiler with water central heating, which heated water only overnight, during the day (Mon - Fri) both of us living in the property were out at work.
However the weird thing is that we used 5,000 daytime units and 3,000 nighttime units.
We believe that the initial meter readings may have been wrong ad there should be NO WAY we used that amount of electricity. Is there anything that we can do? I've been advised to possibly contact CAB, is this going to be worth it or should I bite the bullet and pay?

I would question if the first readings were correct, like I just said on another thread I have had a company try to charge me for a previous residents electricity before. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Have you rang them to query the initial meter readings? If they read the meter during the time you were at the flat, they should be able to estimate what it should have been based on your usage between than and your final reading.0
