  • Thank you for all the valuable advice. I have now booked easyjet from Edinburgh for £209 return for us both and hotel for 3 nights at£180 so a big saving on the £800 I was going to spend.
I am now in the maze of car hire sites and I found one I like but it seemd dear for 2 days - £125 so looking for the best care hire comparison site to use? I tried gocompare but it seems it only checks the big companies like HERTZ etc. I am keen to book with a company called Blue Car Hire but they gave me the £125 on their site, would it be possible to find them on a comparison site do you think?

Car hire is expensive in Iceland unfortunately. The cheapest price I found was through http://www.carrentals.co.uk/ when I went, but I ended up booking with Hertz with an AA members discount and free extra driver (via the AA website). I didn't want the hassle of having to take a voucher from a website somewhere and wanted to make sure I was using a car hire place with an office in the airport and 24 hour opening because it was an early flight back. Check the keflavik airport website for other car rental places based at the airport http://www.kefairport.is/English/Transportation/Car-Hire/
It will take about an hour to drive from the airport to Reykjavik depending on whether. You'll probably want to take a sat nav for getting around Reykjavik (we used a tablet), but travelling elsewhere (Gulfoss, Geysir) is pretty straightforward as there aren't that many road!
  • Please can anyone help? I have paid groupon £209 pp for 2 to go to Iceland. I was contacted 2 days later by weekender-breaks.com during this call I was told I would have to pay an extra £38 pp for transfers and £42 extra for reasonable flights. I said no way and to cancel the deal. Then 15 mins later I get an email 'confirming' my booking. I have since tried to get in touch with weekender-breaks (no answer to phone, no reply to email) also contacted groupon who say it's nothing to do with them they just advertise the deals. I have contacted my credit card company now but not sure if they will help. I don't know where else to go. Turns out the Apta number they advertise doesn't exist either!
