Going to get rid of my mortgage!

Yes I did see it last night- some people just go a bit ott though! Mine always do swimming and then Im happy for them to do one other activity each- although at the moment both are just doing swimming. The girl child wants to do Brownies and Gymnastics but both are full so she is on the waiting list for both and will go to whichever has a space first. The boy child hasn't expressed any wish to do anything- I keep asking but he is very much a mummies boy and just keeps saying he wants to stay at home with me!
Saying that they do the free clubs at school, recorder, choir, science club and both do a before school aerobics club. My parents always had me doing different activities every day of the week and I always just wished I had time just to play with my friends and read... I guess it's all about balance.Mortgage Free WannaBe!

Grr, SKY are greedy so and so's! We cancelled SKY but kept the SKY+ function (i.e. the ability to record programmes). This never worked after we cancelled our SKY subscription, we kept phoning to complain, they kept fixing it but every time we turned the TV off, it wouldnt work again. So, we thought, sod it, we don't need to record anything really, we can watch it on i player etc, so cancelled the SKY+ function. SKY promised us we wouldnt pay anything as it never worked anyway. Lo and behold- money missing from our bank account this morning!! I managed to raid the husbands wallet (he had £30 hiding in there did you know??!!) and pay it back into the bank before we get charged interest but the whole incident annoyed me.
Getting rid of sky was one of the best things we have done. The kids dont even miss it anymore- they dont even think about watching tv when they get in from school as there is nothing worth watching!!
I need to go shopping for work tomorrow morning but took some petty cash from the pot to pay for it, got no money to pay for it myself.Mortgage Free WannaBe!

I got rid of my TV and Sky 12 months ago. Fantastic! No more mindless time wasting. Now if I do want to watch anything, I use my iPad and I'm much more discerning. I watch to relax now, not just because it's on. Best thing I ever did and I'm saving £240 /year to boot!
Still doesn't stop them sending weekly letters enticing me back and phoning every five minutes. What part of "I don't own a TV!" is so difficult to comprehend?Mortgage at end 05/2007: £90200

You are braver than me Thistlewhistle! I don't think Im brave enough to get rid of the TV completly!
Ive been having some good ideas on being thrifty today. We never seem to have enough cleaning clothes (the husband moans I wash them too often but I think there is nothing more disgusting than a manky cloth hanging around in the kitchen). I have an old pair of pyjama trousers that are full of holes and I have decided to cut them up and take them into work. At work we have a textiles room full of clever machinery (I do actually have a sewing machine at home but these ones are better) and if I overlock the edges to stop them fraying, then I will have a whole cupboard full of new cloths! Really pleased with my thriftyness!
The textiles technician at work has also promised to help me resize all my curtains to fit the windows at the new house when we move- we have quite large windows here and I reckon each single curtain could pretty much be turned into a pair of curtains as the windows are smaller in the new house- but there are more of them.
I managed to find 50p in the bottom of my purse to a buy a copy of the Daily Mirror, I wanted it for the money off coupons for ALDI- will do my shopping at ALDI next week. I also got a load of shopping for work- really pleased as I managed to get all the points on my nectar card for it!Mortgage Free WannaBe!

Today has been a really thrifty day! I am so pleased with myself, I made all my new cleaning cloths from my old pyjamas. I've planned to make some cushion covers with the kids as christmas presents for their grandparents. I thought the kids could use fabric crayons to draw some nice pictures on the cover, and then I could machine sew it together. If we start doing it now then it is done and put away ready for Christmas. I'm going to dig my sewing machine out of the garage and get it back in working order and start practising. I am so excited about the possibilities! The great thing is you tube- there are instruction videos for pretty much anything you could possibly want to make. Ive also decided to go through all the baby clothes in the loft and use them to make a patchwork quilt. I need to empty the loft out before we move anyway and I might aswel make something useful out of them! Im so excited about all my crafting opportunites!
The husband wanted Dominos pizza for dinner tonight. He has been paid so the money is burning a hole in his pocket. I have told him in no uncertain terms we are not ordering pizza and have a bread dough rising so we can make pizzas!
The only bad news is I think the boy child may have chicken pox. I was getting him changed this evening and noticed some fluid filled spots on his tummy and neck, he seemed fine in himself though. As soon as I asked him if he felt ok and mentioned the word "chickenpox", he suddenly decided he felt very sick and needed to sit on my lap all evening. We shall see how he is tomorrow. He has never had chicken pox before so I wouldn't be hugely surprised if it was that. Only thing is that it is really inconvinient- it will mean next week off work, Ive also got the girl child's birthday party on Thursday, god knows what I would do about that.Mortgage Free WannaBe!

You'll soon know if it's chicken pox. They spread like wildfire! Has the girl child had them yet? Mine got them 1 at a time exactly 2 weeks 2 days after the first came down with them and my sister's twins did exactly the same thing.0

I am pretty sure it is chicken pox. He has developed more spots today and although he seems ok in himself, he has red cheeks. We saw my brother's girlfriend today, who is a dr, and she said she reckons it is probably chickenpox. Now Ive just heard from another mother from his school saying their child has come down with chickenpox, so Im pretty sure it's that. I'm not hugely worried as he really is ok, just a bit spotty but obviously I will keep a close eye on him.
The girl child has already had chickenpox, she had them as a baby before the boy was born.
I've decided that we are going to postpone girl child's birthday party. I've been in contact with a couple of her friends mums who said that their child has already had it so they can come to play anyway but I don't think we can invite 10+ children here for a film when we have chicken pox in the house. I will have to speak to the rest of the parents at school on monday.
The rest of the day has been pretty uneventful. Girl child went out with a friend all day. I think tomorrow will be pretty much the same as I can't really take the boy out anywhere.
I havn't quite decided what to do about work next week. I think me and the husband will need to have a conversation.Mortgage Free WannaBe!

I had a party when dd3 had chicken pox, other siblings had given them to her, I just rang everyone and told them, and let them decide. Virtually everyone had already had anyway and she wasnt "poorly" with them (not like her siblings) and it was her birthday. It could have gone either way though, fortunately she was little at the time so the "friends" where most family friends and relatives.Morgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... Mine got them by attending a party (not a children's one) where one of the guests baby was there and had chickenpox and we hadn't been informed beforehand that was going to be the case.
We'd driven 100 miles from our home to attend, taking 2 other relatives with us, only to be greeted by 'This is Ruby, my Grand-daughter, she has chicken-pox hope you don't mind'. Well, it was too flaming late if we did, we weren't going to drive 100 miles back, nor could we as we'd taken other family members down in our car and we were all staying overnight. 2 weeks 2 days later my girl child went down with them, and exactly the same time later the boy child did.
Unfortunately this co-incided with him starting in Reception, so he did 4 days of half day integrating instead of the 9 his school-friends did, then off for a couple of weeks and back to f-time school when the rest of his year had had a few weeks to settle in. All because someone didn't pick up the phone the day or even morning before and explain the situation so we could make the decision about if we still wanted to go. I wasn't bothered about DD getting them but I'd have thought about the timing in relation to son starting f-time school and me knowingly putting them at risk of them. My 1st ever thread on MSE was about it:rotfl: Still makes me cross now and son is a teenager.:D0 -
I remember when I was a kid, everyone on our row got chicken pox at the same time. I recall our parents taking it in turns to have a day off to look after all the children. There were 10 of us.
Makes me laugh now to remember it. Should have had big black crosses on the front doors:rotfl:Mortgage at end 05/2007: £90200
