Abercrombie and Fitch

I bought a jumper in the Toronto A&F store whilst on holiday in December. I have worn the jumper 4 times and washed it once. After washing (in line with the instructions on the label) the jumper has shrunk at the back and is covered in bobbles.

I live in Scotland and the nearest A&F store is in London, so I contacted their customer care email address. After agreeing to consider a refund on receipt of pictures proving the bobbling, which I sent, I have now been informed that they cannot consider a refund for an item which has been worn or washed.

I argued that I should under the sale of goods act that an item which has not lasted a reasonable time or is not of satisfactory quality should be replaced. The jumper cost me $96 and I would consider that wearing it 4 times and washing it once is not a reasonable time for a jumper of such apparent quality and it ending up in a state unfit for wearing after washing it once would not be a jumper which was satisfactory quality. A&F responded that they cannot understand how I could claim that the jumper was of unsatisfactory quality and would only replace items with colour bleeding, unfit zippers or studs popping off.

Any advice on where I stand on this? I am reluctant to accept their offer of a 20% discount on a new jumper and free shipping of the jumper from the London store.

You are covered by Canadian law, NOT SOGA or any other such UK laws so quoting this to them is pointless.

You would need to go back to the Toronto retail location to address the situation - the London store are doing you a great favour by even talking to you about it...

I'd accept their offer if i were you. I think it's fair.

You do realise that you're paying for a name, and not high quality goods ? A lot of people think that by buying stuff with a designer name on they are getting top quality. Not always the case i'm afraid.
