Claims Advisory Group / Barclaycard

Hi all, I'm new here so be gentle :)

I have successfully managed to claim back PPI from Barclaycard, while this is good news the amount is being used to contribute towards my outstanding balance (something which I found out earlier today, not chuffed but there you have it). The trouble I now face is that the CAG are going to ask for their 39% (approx £900). So because of making a PPI claim I'm worse off than when I started, can anyone offer some advice? :(

The second point which is related to the above is that the amount was paid into my Barclaycard account a few days ago, which shows on my latest statement. I phoned Barclaycard to confirm this and they said to disregard the amounts on there as they sent a cheque for the same amount on the same day by mistake. In light of this they debited my account with the same amount to account for them giving away over £2000.(it begs the question why they didn't just cancel the cheque?). I have been advised to wait until the end of January, if I haven't received the cheque I am to send them a copy of my bank statement and they'll remove the debit they placed on there the other day. I asked them to explain this a few times, but I'm still not sure i understand it!:o Does this sound right?

If the cheque turns up I can cash it, but will have to give CAG their share (I don't mind, but in hindsight I shouldn't have used them). If the cheque doesn't turn up I'll have a significantly lower credit card balance but will have the CAG hounding me.

I hope someone can make sense of all this?! Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

  • It's common for ppi payments to be made directly into credit card accounts and a cheque issued for the amount on the card. This was the case for me for a couple.

You're screwed re the claims management folk, you'll need to pay them their money you agreed to.

    Thanks for your reply.

Why do they work in this way? Surely it would be easier for them to send me a cheque, as opposed to crediting then debiting my account? Not that it really matters now!

In regards to the CAG, yes I'm crossing everything that this cheque turns up as i don't have £900. if it doesn't turn up can i request another cheque from Barclaycard? They said it was a mistake, but if as you say it's common for them to send a cheque, surely they would replace a missing one?

The cheque still hasn't arrived. Barclaycard have said it was sent on the 7th (over a week ago). I wouldn't be too bothered but as mentioned above they originally said that sending the cheque was a mistake as they used the PPI award against my outstanding balance. I don't want to rock the boat too much and they turn round and say they're not sending another one.

  • How do you know if you have PPI on Barclaycard - is it obvious?

Yes, it is obvious. It appears on your statement.

Yeah as the previous poster says it'll be on your statement. If you, like I have cancelled it you can claim to have that refunded (plus interest :)) if you were mis-sold it. There are advice on what exactly 'mis-sold' means elsewhere on the PPI thread.

Good luck if you make a complaint! :)

Update regarding my cheque. I spoke with another BC employee who says the cheque hasn't been sent out yet. They're sending it today *rolls eyes*

    Fingers crossed it arrives, eventually.
