DH is extremely jealous of the Buzzards and Red kites,:rotfl: and wants to know what area you are in.:rotfl:
I live on The Black Isle, north of Inverness, they re introduced the Red kites here and they are doing great and Buzzy lives and breeds in the tree next to the house which is great until the babies start screaming for food, I have to admit I had to get my bird book out and still am struggling to name the last bird below the Robin:o, please:)

Day shift tommorow so I'm off to bed with the tablet now, so posting will be limited. I may have a browse at the night crew's banter if I don't fall asleep first.
Thanks for all your appreciation of DH's pics, he's gone to bed a happy bunny.

Yes this looks to be a good camera. It has a High MP, High Optical Zoom (digital zoom is a waste of time), can shoot HD video and is a Nikon, so a well established brand. He could do a lot worse.
For me, I would prefer to have a camera with a Flip Out Screen, makes it so much easier to shoot holding the camera low or high which makes shots much more creative. Also, the motorised zoom for me is just not quick enough to get from tight to wide angle. It can also be limiting when using the video mode (I would have to check whether it can be used on this camera whilst using video, if it can't then when you are recording video you are stuck with the lens in one place so if you want to zoom in or out you use your feet or you stop filming, zoom, then start again). Also the motorised zoom can drain the batteries if you use it alot.
I have a fuji, so can only really comment on them, but would say to look at the FujiShop, which sell refurbished cameras and have this:
http://shop.fujifilm.co.uk/finepix-hs20-refurbished.html
which is a fair bit more at £169.99.
However, it is much more like a DSLR type camera.
It has a twisty manual zoom, so it is quiet, fast, doesn't drain batteries and can be used with the video mode. It has a load of manual and auto settings so can teach him about photography, takes AA batteries (so cheap to buy more if you need to when out and about instead of having to charge a camera specific battery, but you can use rechargable AA's too to keep the cost down) and will let him take loads and loads of photos.
But the Nikon would still be agreat camera.

Spirallingdown, DH says to tell you that his pics are all taken with a bridge camera, a Nikon coolpix P510.
I love the way it picks up the details in the feathers, like the starling one........all those little arrows of white at the ends look lovely, and if you zoom in on the photos we have on the computer you can actually see individual feathers.Yes this looks to be a good camera. Thanks guys, I appreciate your help.
I'm going to see if Argos will be willing to let him test it out first, I don't want him wasting his money on something he can't use. I've given him my wee one to practice with until we get there on Thursday and we'll see what they say.
I know he's good at taking photos we've got loads of examples on the pc so he's keen to expand on those. they were all done with his dad on his mobile and camera but since all our stuff was packed up when we had to move we haven't been able to find it and I think that's what's prompted this, that and a photography comp they used to enter was advertised and he picked up a leaflet because he wants to enter this year.SPC #329 £471/£500 banked
