My nanna was 73 and she had senile dementia and parkinsons and I miss her every day even though she lived in Ireland. Until she became really sick she visited us as often as she could and every Easter. We went over every Summer and as I got older, half terms if I wasn't working; I used to work in a school then a college until I became ill myself. She was lovely. She'd love this thread. She was the queen of moneysaving. The funny thing is, when I was young I hated being dragged around the charity shops and now I miss it so much. I've had a drink today for her; I don't really drink often, we can't afford it.

Evening all
Hope you've had a lovely birthday MHOC.
Nice picture of your lane Westvleteren
Forecasters have got it wrong today for up here, no problems on the roads at all,
Whilst I fully understand the grief that some vets (and other professionals too) give with costs of treament, I would think that the tempatation to increase fees as insurance covers the treatment/surgery, is high for some, but doubt if it is for all. Of course shop around, find the vet you and your animal can have a rapport with.
As to being charged just to "go there", this equally is a valid point.
Any professional has to pay for all the equipment they use. Some is resuable, some isn't, but all will need to be replaced at some point. Then there's the usual overheads of any business.
It is a business they're running, a caring/empathic one, and they're doing a job they're devoted to, and passionate about.
But the initial costs and replacement costs have to be covered somehow. Bear that in mind when anyone feels like slating the initial consultation fee.
(and I'm not a vet, but very disillusioned with people thinking that professionals are a charity and should give of their time, experience, and equipment for free, or just not being willing to pay for what they need)
I completely understand where you're coming from, but I think I must have missed a comment about being charged "Just to go there" Obviously you have to pay for a consultation and a vets is a business (Although the new vets I'm going to charges £24 consultation fee and my old one was £40;)) At the end of the day as I said before I'll pay whatever it costs to get him better but I don't quite get how I can be charged £200 less for the same thing at a vets a bit further down the road;) I was just commenting that it doesnt do any harm to shop around and find a vet that you could be happy with thats cheaper;)princessmelody2009 wrote: »My cousin, (Who's just moved to Telford incase ye didn't already know) is a vet, that's why she moved to Telford, for the job
I remember as kids she always loved animals and wanted to be a vet as far back as I can remember. She loves her work and I can without a doubt say that there are some out there who deeply care for the animals and trained as vets purely because they want to help, they're not all bad
I know how devoted most of them are:)My DS's friend is training to be a vet and she adores animals, and her training is about 7 years :eek:I think its just the same as any other profession, you get good vets and bad vets:(Beware!!!! Glitching is addictive:rotfl:0 -

My Grans been gone about 15 years now and like you I hated being dragged out round the town in the school holidays only to be stopped for ages while she chatted to her friends (she was in her 80's when she passed away) and I still miss her as much as I did.
She'd have loved this thread too, I remember her purse always had a load of coupons for the local S's and she loved whoopsies!
