BarleySugar wrote: »Talking of vets, I was happy with ours until recently. Their charges were reasonable, vets seemed efficient and caring, but in October last year my beautiful boy Ben was in terrible pain and after some X-rays, he was diagnosed with spondylosis (fusing of the spine). We were charged about £100 for various painkillers etc, for 3 weeks supply, but after just a few days it was obvious they weren't helping, and we had to have Ben PTS.
:(:(
When we were paying the vets last bill, my DH asked would they refund us for the remaining tablets, and their reply was 'No, but we can dispose of them for you'. I'm sorry but I just don't believe they wouldn't put foil wrapped tablets back into stock! Maybe I'm just cynical
Anyway we gave all the tablets to a dog rescue charity who will make good use of them! Hopefully we'll get another dog soon, a rescue, and I think then I'll shop around the local vets before committing to one.
I'm glad Doggylala will be going to my vet, although I would rather it wasnt neccessary for him ,( he's my friend and always brings me a toy when I go to Lala's & sits on my foot) to visit a vet but I know that all the Lala's will be treated well all the staff are very kind & caring in fact the vet was very interested when my Mum had her cataract & cornea ops as he does cataract operations

Evening all

Forecasters have got it wrong today for up here, no problems on the roads at all,
Whilst I fully understand the grief that some vets (and other professionals too) give with costs of treament, I would think that the tempatation to increase fees as insurance covers the treatment/surgery, is high for some, but doubt if it is for all. Of course shop around, find the vet you and your animal can have a rapport with.
As to being charged just to "go there", this equally is a valid point.
Any professional has to pay for all the equipment they use. Some is resuable, some isn't, but all will need to be replaced at some point. Then there's the usual overheads of any business.
It is a business they're running, a caring/empathic one, and they're doing a job they're devoted to, and passionate about.
But the initial costs and replacement costs have to be covered somehow. Bear that in mind when anyone feels like slating the initial consultation fee.
(and I'm not a vet, but very disillusioned with people thinking that professionals are a charity and should give of their time, experience, and equipment for free, or just not being willing to pay for what they need)
The last one laid on the floor stroking Bailey for about 10-15 minutes of our consultation whilst asking us questions because she was a nervous wreck, another was telling us all about how he had not managed to get through to come dine with me and then said dope her up with painkillers or keep her on a lead from now on.
I agree it is a business and they have worked long and hard for their qualifications but they are the same as any other proffession good and bad
Give or take £150-£160 per hour consultation fees we have been charged. When The Fun Stops Stop0 -

Yes well said and I would add to that to be a MRCVS (member of the royal college of veterinary surgeons) is something which takes donkeys years to achieve - years studying and placements. Consider it like going to a dermatologist for yourself or your child at 150 to 180 a go. Again just a fact.:)never stop doing your best because someone doesn't give you credit0 -

Goodbye Lottery I can’t believe the lottery company Camelot could be so insensitive to the current economic plight we are finding ourselves in that they are increasing the cost of a lottery ticket by 100% so it is going to be £2 a go.
I was already a bit stretched buying my lottery tickets I bought lottery ticket’s for the Wednesday and the Saturday = £2, Lotto plus5 =£1 plus the Euro lottery for Tuesday and Friday = £4 so in total it was £7 a week.
I started recently to buy them for a month at a time which made me realise how much I was spending on the lottery £28 a month! Now with the increase it would amount to £36 a month! For a dream! Well my dream of winning the lottery is over.
Camelot has become too greedy and I think they will lose far more than they gain, they won’t be having anymore of my money.
I assume lottery take up is plummeting.
My guess is they're doing this because I think recently on one drawer a few people won the jackpot and their individual cut of the jackpot actually came in less than 5 and the bonus ball. That's enough to put people off entering if it happens regularly....
Also I think 8 people shared a 1.9 million jackpot recently - my money goes on the thunderball if i have a punt now as at least the jackpot there's a guarenteed half millionHistoric Debt August 2009 = £63,600 10th March 2017 = £0 100% paid all gone!
